Can't help with GR records as I don't use them, Freebmd.org.uk is good as it is very easy to use, have you found them on the 1911 census?

Hate to say this but this site may not have them!

give us one of your searches and let us help go back a bit more

Oh and welcome to the site

Karina, it may just be that you are putting too much detail in your search, eg a specific location, or date...as Kemp says put some details on here and we can check.

Karina, as you have this post also on Find Ancestors board, it may be as well to delete here and continue there, that prevents any one helping from duplicating info :-)

thank you for the warm welcome xx
im looking for Augustas charles hall, born in 1884, died 22 april 1956
also his wife Alice Martha willoughby born in 1885, died aug 20th 1958, i just cant find Augustas birth, probably in the berkshire area?
Also a puzzle on my paternal side is Frank Bright born sept 1911, died 12 dec 1969 but i cant find his birth details, it makes sense with his marriage in later years in york that he was born in weardale?
I want to go further back than this and im really getting into it now!! so a kick start would help thank you for any help xx

Hi lynski,
Yes that is their marriage june 1907, and yes thats them in 1911, gosh your good at this!! how do i go about finding their parents?
as for Frank Bright thats the one i found and his marriage to Esther watson makes sense because of the area they were living in when they married, i need to find his and her parents, would that be on an earlier census?

A search at http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl gets:

Births Sep 1911 (>99%)
BRIGHT Frank Bright Weardale 10a 607

Now when the mum's MS=Maiden Surname matches the child's surname, it's most likely an illegitimate birth.
(Abt 1% of time married parents did wed a spouse with the same surname - usually because they were 1st cousins and their fathers were brothers.)
So the first thing to do is click on the page # link ("607" here) to see if the father's name is in the index too.
However, there's no other Frank's named on p 607.

One can also click on the "Weardale" link then the more info "here" link to see a list of the villages, etc., covered by Weardale RD. One also sees:
WEARDALE REGISTRATION DISTRICT
Sub-districts : St. John, Stanhope, Wolsingham
Registers now held by : County of Durham district.

Stanhope subdistrict covered the civil parishes of Hunstanworth, Edmondbyers, and parts of Stanhope and Stanhope Urban

To determine Frank's mum, I think you're going to have to buy his b.cert.
I would get this via: http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/

Now the GRO's not the only place you can buy BMDs - you can also buy them from the local office that now holds the Weardale regos - in this case the County of Durham rego office.
Why I mention this is that some local offices have their own index online, and these indexes don't have identical info to the GRO index. For what's online, see http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/local_bmd

In particular: http://www.northeastbmd.org.uk/

Now a look up of Frank gets:
Surname: BRIGHT
Forename: Frank
Year: 1911
District: Durham Western
and clicking on the postal application form reveals:
Register No. - Entry No. - District
STAN/25 - 130 - Durham Western (1911)

So now we know Frank's birth was rego'ed in the Stanhope subdistrict.

Now GR has 31 Bright's living in Weardale in 1911 (plus a couple of others born there).
However, even if I were to limit myself to females living in Stanhope subdistrict 3-6 m before Frank's birth, there's still multiple choices for possible mothers of Frank.
