Good morning all :-)

Anne I think it was 1904 Beatrice travelled to America, correct me if I'm wrong, but think it said she was 10yrs. would have to check back on prog.

Agree Tess many holes in the story, but of course probably not enough time given.

Glad WDYTYA is back :-D

It was legall at that time to marry at 14 years, so could be the correct marriage! If itis, I wonder where she got the name Pickford from?

I had wondered why they hadn't looked for the marriage of Beatrice to Alwxander when they were looking for details about her, instead of finding her on the Census records and then a possible/probable birth cert for her!

Enjoyed the programme but it left many questions unanswered, eg No details of marriage of Beatrice, (which should include her fathers name, and witness names) no details of how her father died, (he was quite young). No details of marriages etc for Beatrices half-siblings (maybe some of their descendants would have more records, memories and photos).

I feel like a real snoop now!
I couldn't resist looking those 1914 military docs for Alexander, and yes Anne you have a correct marriage.
Wife Beatrice and marriage date is on them
14 Mar 1908 in Plymouth to Beatrice Winifred Pickford (SPINSTER).
This cannot be the same woman from the programme.... she was born in 1894 and would be just 14yrs old at 1908.
Was the date of travel with her US family not 1910?

I've an instance in my tree where a young child appeared to be abandoned about 1835.

When her mother died, she was taken in by her maternal grandmother while her father went off to America.

30 years later, now married and with a family of her own, her father and his (3rd) wife returned to the UK and escorted all of them to America. Out of sight, but not out of mind :-D

Anne I wondered about the history of Beatrice and what happened to her,but suppose the programme isn't long enough.

Just watched it and dissappointed they didn't let us know when Beatrice decided to come back to England from the US and marry Alexander! There's a marriage online for an Alexander Cunningham Ryan in Plymouth 1908 and coincidetally to a Beatrice (Winefred Pickford!!!) First wife perhaps it would have been nice to round off the story. But still enjoyed it!

I thought that too Sue,still nice trip to New York eh? ;-)

Unusual for me but I didn't think it was a tear jerker at all, probably because I felt Samantha appeared at times too dramatic.

I felt more sad because the story of Beatrice, being left behind while mother took to the stage, is a carbon copy of my father's early life. And I am soo jealous Samantha managed to see a picture of her GGmother something I have yet to find,I have newspaper cuttings of my grandmother but no picture :-(.....
would love to have had help from BBC.

Still I do like the series and looking forward to next week's. :-D
