Love this programme BUT they make it seem so easy to find things out. I am having a real struggle with both my grandads army service in and before the WW1. Still I will keep on searching and enjoying the programme as well.lol. :-)

Had a look at the early part Thanks Mau bit it still all seems a puzzle. Nan was Dolly and Dad was Noel BUT Noel who ??

cant see a Dorothy Ryan birth either and she looks too young to be the 1918 Ryan /Finkle birth

without going into details there is a Ryan/Finkle birth in 1918 so would seem to be the scenario many of us have with the ancestors/family

GlasgowLass Report 16 Aug 2012 14:00

I am going to watch it again too.... I want reminded on "exactly" what Sam's g/mother said about her parents.
From memory Sam's Gran didn't seem to know her dad too well, and remembers him as a rather sad man? Alexander died in 1943.
How old was his daughter?
I am guessing that she was born in the early 1930's
She is Sam's paternal grandmother and Sam's father was born in 1949!

The Finkles must have been wealthy to be travelling backwards and forwards during this time.

Thinking back to when Samantha was in New York, the researcher remarked that she hadn't really found anything about the GGrandmother except the 'name change'!.. not very satisfactory findings imho

Odd?
Cannot find them on a 1920 return, but can find Harry snr and Jessie in 1930
Harry snr Jessie and Harry junior can all be found saiiling FROM southhampton to New York in Apr 1929 but I cannot find them coming in?

Or maybe they didn't marry. That would explain why we were not shown a marriage cert. Perhaps he wasn't free to marry as Beatrice the first was still alive.

OR were they barking up the wrong tree???

This has happened to a lot of us at some time or other, just because it seems to be the right person (at first) doesn't mean that it IS the right person.

Anyone got access to USA census records after 1910?

Would like to have known what happened to the other Finkle children

This is one show where the 1 hour was not long enough for the time to be taken to follow through all the unanswered questions.

Also is it possible that Alexander and Beatrice married in Scotland?
