I don't like sport full stop and am sick of it already. Before the football started tonight I had half an hour of the cricket.(Did get to watch Country file so I suppose I should be grateful for small mercies.) We actually didn't stay up to watch the end of the tennis, although I don't follow it, it is marginally better than football I suppose. I have been recording all the old midsummer murders so OH watches the football up here and I watch a recording downstairs.

When England played last week they couldnt run for toffee. Rubbish. Too many late nights proppin up the bars.
Tennis players keep going for 3 hours or more. Now they are fit.

Sad that so many football fans travel far and wide to support their teams and get let down.

I don't feel sad for the football fans

May be if the fans stopped paying absorbitant prices to see their teams and stopped buying overpriced merchandise these players would have to work harder to warrant the millions they are payed

they are supposed to be athletes

An infantry soldier is a athlete
your average infantry soldier earns abt 18/20k he has to Carrie heavy loads over large distances for hour after hour and when he then gets to the battle field still be fit enough to fight a battle that could last for hours

any soldier who cannot do this is automatically put on remedial PT until he is fit enough to play with the big boys

You folks don't know when you're well off. When I were a lad there was only one channel and if it wasn't Wimbledon it was a test match (yawn). Why make a fuss over two channels being used when there are now dozens of terrestrial channels. The couple of areas where there are still analogue channels have only weeks to go now.

Morning All
Well I pay my licence fee the same as sports lovers do, as do alot of peeps, so why is there no alternative for us.
As has been said, no Casualty Saturday night because of the tennis, and the same football match on both main channels. Very poor planning by those resposible for that.
I am about sported out, but still have the Olympics to live through yet.
Well, fraught I was, extremely fraught.
But, OH ran through the channels, and managed to find me about 3/4 of an hour of Andre Ruie (sp).
There is nothing like abit of a gorgeous man with a violin under his chin to calm the nerves and soothe the furrowed brow.
After that, at kick of time I got me head into me crochet.
If all this sport keeps up, I will have crocheted enough things to clothe all the kids in the third world.
Bring back abit of drama on a Saturday night

Its a pity the digital switch over hasn't been completed.

If it had, then both the Beep and the other one could have set up a dedicated freeview sports channel to use for all the International games, Wimbledon and the flaming Olympics.

I truly think that the alleged interest in Football in particular is media driven. Admit to not bothering about it or having any interest in Internationals, and you are considered unusual. OH has admitted that he only vaguely watched Footie WC so he could discuss it with people at work....who watched it because they thought they 'ought to' to be able to discuss it at work!

Can't remember when I saw any sport other than footie and tennis on TV (OK I've a vague recollection of darts, but that's hardly a sport and tennis is only once a year).

The sports programme managers at BBC and ITV pay millions to football clubs to televise their matches which could be used to cover vastly more sports.
