Sun Wheel

One tradition at Litha is to make a sun wheel out of thin tree branches and decorate it with the colours of the Sun God. When it is complete, it is hung in the branches of a tree or some wild place as a reminder of the God's power and to ask for his protection. In an old European tradition, a huge sun wheel would be fashioned and would be set alight before being rolled down a hill across fields to be blessed by the Sun God. Harvest would soon come and a plentiful crop would be asked for.

For one of the modules, that was part of my degree, I had to do a presentation. I chose to base the presentation on the Wiccan/Pagan calendar, the following was about the Solstice.

Litha (Lee tha)
Fulfilment and change are the themes of Litha. The literal translation of ‘solstice’ is “sun stands still”. Midsummer, also known as Litha, is a celebration of the longest day, when the power of the sun, represented as the male facet of deity, is at his strongest. Litha, which lies on the opposite side of the Wheel of the Year to Yule, means “the opposite of Yule.”
Preternatural creatures of the Faery Realm are believed to be in the land of the living and must not be upset. Midsummer is also considered to be a powerful time for casting spells and a good time for harvesting herbs for magical use. Using the sacred white hilted knife of Boline, plants are cut and it is important not to drop them on the ground so that their magical properties do not drain into the ground.
The Goddess is blessed by the Sun God, harvest would soon come and a plentiful crop would be asked for. At Litha the Goddess is also the Mother phase of the Triple Goddess. Having mated with the God at Beltane her blooming can be seen in flowers, birds and animals. As the Green Man, the God is manifest in the forests and woods; at Litha he is king and at the peak of his strength.
It’s after Litha that the God begins to change, turning towards the dark half of the year when trees, plants and life slowly begin to fade and die. Without darkness there is no light, with death there is no life.
Again the Oak King and Holly King duel, this time it is the Holly King who triumphs.

A bit of googling may also give you some ideas.

ah BC, I remember the Summer of Love in 1967. I was just a yooof then, still at school.

But I wandered the streets in my kaftan, bell bottoms with my cowbells and bead.

I have long hair down to me btm, and indeed flowers in my hair. I even gave up wearing shoes, gawd knows why. pmsl

Warbles.
If you're going to San Francisco, be sure to wear some flowers in your hair......

My beau was PS, I wonder whatever happened to him?
lol

I can heartily recommend Waitrose. They are a fine shop, the staff are wonderful, and if it has a Royal whatsit, it is good enough for me.

I shall be the one on me knees, listening for musical sounds reverberating along the pavement.

:-D :-D :-D

Hello BC. I am sure I live within a bus ride of you.

I shall put my ear to the ground, and follow the music.

Do I have to bring food, or shall I just bring a bottle.

Methinks you are partial to a drop of the Irish nectar?

:-D
