Cannot claim to have watched many films in my life at all.

But 12 O'Clock High was a big favourite and still is. The deserted and crumbling air base, home of all the memories. The way GP takes over command of a bedraggled and demotivated group of airmen.

And the way he loses it and becomes a shell of the man he was. Brilliant film, brilliant actor.

Keys of the Kingdom

1944 American film based on the 1941 novel, The Keys of the Kingdom, by A. J. Cronin
This is the 136-minute chronicle of a Scottish priest (Peck), who is assigned a mission in China, the story spanning sixty years from 1878 to 1938

Amazing film - only saw it once but it was wonderful - still remember a lot of it - must have made a big impact on me.

I think i was in love with Gregory Peck - Even though I was only a teenager & he was over 60 then - its the filmstar from the 50's /60's I fell in love with - i still love his movies - probably still am a littl bit in love with him & Stewart Granger - I always did like older men

A sad loss - but we still have his films to look back on

My other favouries are
Captain Horatio Hornblower
How the west was won -
(would have signed him up to my wagon any day)
Scarlet & the Black
Twelve o'clock high
On the Beach
Sea Wolves
Blue & the gray

I liked the Omen & Boys from Brazil very different roles

thank you for setting up this thread

He was nominated for an oscar for Best Actor in a Leading Role for "Gentleman's Agreement" in 1947.

"Captain Horatio Hornblower" where he starred alongside Virgina Mayo and James Robertson Justice.

"Designing Woman" with Lauren Bacall, made in 1957.

"How the West Was Won", now everyone was in this!

"Marooned" with David Jannsen and Gene Hackman.

Taught and tense movie about astronauts stranded on the moon.

Hope these films bring back a few more good memories.

My ma-in-law still has a crush on him and she's 98!! Mind you, Sean Bean is a favourite of hers too, but most of all, the actor in High Noon, can't think of his name - Gary? and I can understand that, because he resembles her late husband.

Personally, I think Gregory Peck was gorgeous.

Dear All

Hello

Hope you are okay.

Born on 5 April 1916 in California, Eldred Gregory Peck became one of the world's most popular film stars.

Mr Peck attended the University of California, Berkeley where the acting coach Ky Ebright felt he should try acting. As with most actors, he struggled to earn a living and worked as a kitchen helper in exchange for meals.

Peck would later say about attending Berkeley that, "it was a very special experience for me and three of the greatest years of my life.

It woke me up and made me a human being"

In 1997 Peck donated $25,000 to the Berkeley crew in honor of his coach, the renowned Ky Ebright.

After doing small theatre roles, in the early 1940's, Mr Peck got his film break working alongside actress Greer Garson in "Valley of Decision"
and then "Days of Glory".

He played diverse roles in his long and distinguished career:

A journalist who falls in love with a princess in "Roman Holiday". His leading lady was Audrey Hepburn, who won an Oscar. He generously gave the comparatively unknown Miss Hepburn equal billing on the film credits.

Atticus Finch, the lawyer, in "To Kill a Mockingbird" who faces bigotry and threats. He says the famous line "in this court room all men are equal".

He won an oscar for this part in 1962.

He co-produced the western picture "The Big Country" and worked with Jean Simmons, Charlton Heston and Burl Ives.

In real life, he was a passionate supporter of getting rid of all nuclear weapons and he acted in the harrowing film "On the Beach" about life after a nuclear accident.

Later in the 1980's, Mr Peck played Albraham Lincoin in the mini-series
"The Blue and the Gray".

President Lyndon Johnson honored gave Mr Peck with the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1969 for his lifetime humanitarian efforts and in 1989,
the American Film Insitute bestowed their lifetime achivement on him.

Gregory Peck passed away on 12 June 2003.

At the memorial service, actor Brock Peters gave a moving tribute about his friend and told how, Mr Peck had contacted him before they began working together on "To Kill a Mockingbird" as a gesture of friendship.

Mr Peters told the audience gathered that "never before or since has any actor ever treated me so kindly".

On 28 April 2011, a special commerative first day stamp in America to honour him was issued.

Take gentle care
