Hope you all stay safe. And we were worried about 70mph gusts of wind here last week.

Allan Report 12 Jun 2012 10:29

Weather now deteriorating. Wind picking up. Power back on after a three hour cut: but compared to many in south west WA who are still without power after 48 hours, this is a minor inconvenience

Allan

Allan Report 12 Jun 2012 05:33

Hang in there Scozz :-)

Another storm front is expected to hit the south west of WA tonight, as stong as, if not stronger than Sunday's storm.

I pray for all the SES workers, and others, who are expected to clean up the mess as it happens :-(

Stay safe all, where ever you may be

I'm not saying the weather is good, but for the first time in days I can tell where the sky stops & the ocean starts! They've been the same grey colour for about a week.

It's still raining.

Hatten down the batches, as my dad would have said, Allan.

Strong winds all day today and another storm front forecast for tomorrow night :-(

LadyScozz Report 11 Jun 2012 08:32

Hope you're OK Allan. The West is getting a hammering.

I'm way over the other side, northern NSW. It hasn't stopped raining for three days! Getting windy too. I expect I'll get blown down the street when I go out tomorrow :-(

Huia, although we are on a suburban block, we do live very close to the Estuary, so sometimes have to contend with flooded roads when there is a combination of very high tides and strong westerlis as is now occurring.

To be honest though, in the 18 years that we have been here this is the worst damage we have had, although only minor (until I can get outside when it is light, to make a full assessment!)

When my husband was clearing the branches of the tree from the drive he heard the crackling from the power line which was underneath, so he was VERY careful.

We are out in the country, so no underground power lines for us except for that one coming to our house.

Well it all adds to the excitement of life, Allan. I think we had sausages for dinner, cooked on the camping gas stove.

Allan

Allan Report 10 Jun 2012 22:14

lol Huia...sorry about that , but it sounds humorous after the event.

We are fortunate that although the house is 20 years old now (we have lived here for 18 years) whenit was built it was in one of the first 'new' subdivisions where undergroung power had to be provided. However there are still many older suburbs around where overhead power is the norm.

Cyclone Drena on 11 Jan 1997 at about 5.15 a.m. brought down a big branch of one of our trees, and it brought down our power line. The first we knew was that there was an almighty bang. When we peered out the front windows in the semi-dark we could just make out the tree on the drive. When it was light enough we went out and found a hole wrenched in the gable end of the house where the power line had been attached. It was my birthday, and I had a chook thawing in the fridge to cook for dinner. Had to throw it out eventually. We were without full power for 37 hours. The transformer on the power pole had been damaged and had to be replaced. What a birthday that was, very memorable.

We now have the power line coming in underground.

Huia.

Would you believe it !!

The bl**dy wind has picked up again and it's lashing down

. Hey ho, probably more power cuts! And I won't be able to see if we have had any more damage until it starts to get light in about 2.5 hrs time

Dear Huia and Allan

Hello

It sounds terrifying to me.

Mother nature is certainly a force to be reckoned with, without all the pollution and other things going on in the world.

Your picture is lovely
.
Take gentle care
Very best wishes
