They were living in Fulham on 1891 census,,,

West Ham was possibly the overall registration district Leyton was possibly one place they had lived when Walter was a baby and 8 years down the line with more children mistakes were made

although Leyton would have come under Hackney,,

You need to understand parish, registration district, county, on census's relate to where the person was on the date the census was taken, and not where that person was born,

Hi Lesley you may well be right, although I have been researching for sometime there is a lot I still don't know. Anyhow I still can't find a birth for Walter. The only one I found was in the third quarter in 1882 and that gives West Ham.

Kind regards

Kathryn

I think - not sure! - that the registration district refers to the district where the census took place, That wouldn't necessarily be the same as the birthplace. Leyton isn't so very far from West Ham - certainly not in Essex - but the census taker could have got it wrong. What is the address for your 1891 census?

Kathryn I might be wrong (I often am) but I think that's say Walter was born Leyton and living in Fulham. x

Thank you Thelma, so I deduce from that list that Leyton and West Ham are one in the same or am I wrong? I will keep that list safe for any future reference.

Yes it's me again, having a blonde day. I have one ancestor I found that I am trying to build on. I've found him being born in Leyton, Essex that's through the 1891 census. When I look for him in births I cannot find him but find the same name but being born in West Ham. Can anyone please tell me if this district or whatever you call it is one in the same or is there somewhere in the future if I come across this type of thing again I can check on parishes, districts etc to see if they are one in the same.

Kathryn
