Mobility Scooters...proficiency testing?

That's what my OH wants to do if he gets one, make it into a 'trike'. Being the hairy biker that he is...and he'll want flames and all that jazz... :-D

Have to agree a test and insurance should be needed before using them.

There shouldn't be a limiter on them, those can be removed. They should be BUILT to go no more than walking pace, end of. Like an electric wheelchair, you don't see people bombing around in them knocking old ladies over and causing traffic accidents...nor should we be seeing this with mobility scooters.

My dad had to take a proficiency test before he was allowed to have his outdoor wheelchair.

It quite took the edge off his 92nd birthday finding that he could not have it made any faster. He had the poor engineer legging it up and down beside him before he could be convinced.

He and his mate form a little convoy with the wheelchair and pushbike. Each wears a reflective jacket and they travel facing the traffic, just like a pedestrian.

A police driver slowed down and had a look at them once but took no action so they can't be so dangerousabout their pursuits.
