I don't have anything to add, Rose. I get the occasional whiff of hashish wafting from my neighbours window on a summer's evening....it is quite pleasant, really :-D

What is the name of your beautiful rose, Rose? :-) <3

The rose is 'Tea Clipper" BC, I haven't got it yet, it's a David Austin rose which I want to buy when I can, as my gt gt grandfather and gt grandfather were watermen/lightermen on the Thames and at some point I believe they helped unload the teaclippers

I like to plant something in the garden that has a particular connection with family or friends who have died...either because of the name or some memory that is linked..

A lovely idea, Rose, and a really beautiful rose. I remember a rose my Dad had in his garden. It was called G.I. Joe (am almost sure there was no family connection to G.I.s!) but I would like to find it. This year have planted roses for the first time and am really excited as they have buds on already. Thanks to Merlin's tip to mix some banana peel in the soil! :-D :-D

Sorry to take this back to the original nasty smell.

When I was at work years ago, the smoking room was below our office. The smell was awful. In the end the smoking room had to be completely sealed to stop the smell. And then when the smoking ban came in, it was gutted and refitted, the only way to get rid of the smell.

I would suggest that you need to go around the bottom of your skirting boards with a sealant gun. It that does not work then you will have to then go to the floorboards.

There is very little you can do and all the options offered (and any other I can sugggest) only mask the smell and as such you will never rid your home of it, the only way it will stop is if your neighbours move or give up smoking.

You have my sympathy, I do not and never have smoked and I find the smell awful. OH will only smoke in the garden, but my neighbour enjoys standing at his front door with a cup of tea and a ciggie most mornings and evenings and if the wind is blowing downhill the smell is vile, but it is only for a short while, so I grin and bear it.

You can now go back to your talk of the lovely roses. I have 1 white rose tree and a yellow rose bush - that is as green fingered as I get!

If your the only one smelling this Rose, its possible its a phantom smell which can be caused by all sorts including migraines.

Not yet Marion I thought I'd leave it till nearly bed time and then if my knees won't get me back up, Dan can just chuck the duvet over me ;-)

Good site thanks I have put it in my favourites to read through.

Been thinking........

Try a small bowl of kitty litter. It can absorb all sorts of pongs.

Don't laugh! Where I live gets very humid in summer, I keep small containers of kitty litter in wardrobes & cupboards, helps stop things (especially shoes!) getting mouldy. I also keep containers in the bathrooms.

Also - try some nice incense.

If next door had a cat, it would have trouble peeing in the wardrobe - the kitty litter is tied up in a bag & hanging from a hook lol

Next door has three staffies - I don't think they like cats (the staffies, not the neighbours)!
