Stray, Gordon Brown sold most of our gold reserves at a time of prosperity at the time when gold was at an all time low,

gold reserves where their for just this occasion but as Gordon said gone are the days of boom and bust

I never could understand those who claimed he was a good chancellor

and as for printing money they call that quantitative easing to confuse the general public into believing it's some thing good to do, it has the same affect as devaluing the pound their for adding to inflation

:-D Stray is that for economy or a new source of wind powered energy?

I was discussing economics and previous recessions with D last night (cause and effect etc... he is much more into economics than me ) and couldn't really come up with any answers.... I do wonder sometimes if there is a 'solution' or whether the majority have to get used to doing without and our standard of living drop permanently?

My solution would be to make the banks write off all the toxic debt they took on through sheer greed and start afresh. Thats just for starters.

We wrant a buoyant economy? Start manufacturing again and accept 5 years of no pay rises and take the pain. Just like germany did. Drastically trim the public sector and cut the top heavy management in the nhs. Make the taxation system understandable to all and cut bureacrocy back to the bone.

Thats for starters.

double dip recession? Did we ever recover?

I don't think so,

The problem with this countries problem is we are far to close to the rest of europe and we live in a global economy

I just wish that the political party would stop trying to score political points every time they are asked about the situation these MP's from all the parties are supposed to represent their constituents and instead of slagging each other off it would be nice in these difficult time if they would came up with policies and solution instead of the spin,

That would be a start
