Have to agree Julie about joining a queue.

My biggest bugbear is people who stand in a queue to pay ,no matter how long it takes but stand there like tripe waiting for the check out operator to tell them the amount. Then and only then do they start looking for their ******** purse/card as if they have just discovered that the goods have to be paid for. Why can't people get their money ready, or at least find their purse. Its as if they are in a permanent state of stupor until a voice says that will be £ ??. -jl

If they are over a certain age, queueing is in their genes. Good old dunkirk spirit and comaradery with a rousing chorus of 'hang out the washing' :-D

Island, there is a shop in our town, that is a local bakery. Their stuff is loverly, and fattening.
Come every high day and holiday,particularly at Christmas, there are queues right up the high street, mainly of elderly people. They will happily queue for their goodies for Christmas, but are often featured in the local paper, when the queue at the Post Office is so long on double pension day, that they are standing outside in all weathers.
Now I always thought everyone had access to some sort of freezer, even the freezer box in the top of the fridge. So what is to stop them going a couple of days before, and getting their bread, Pork Pies etc. and keeping them chilled. Queuing for food stuffs is not what happens in this country.
Seeing this happen, I swear I will never queue for anything, except to pay at a till.

Carol Payne, that is exactly what I mean. I can fo into that store and buy a pair of trousers for my husband, knowing his waist size and leg length, and know they will fit him.
Not so with womans clothes, and in particular, trousers.
I would love to take the designers aside, and point out their deficits, in respect of womans trousers.
But I am a mere woman, and a paying customer to boot. What would I k now about the fitting of womens trousers.????

Janet, I do not have the time, because I have a busy life. When I look at the queues for the changing rooms, it puts me off. I thought queuing for things stopped at the end of the war.

I have never bought anything in the last twenty years without trying it on first of all. The days of choosing a size that is guaranteed to fit is long gone.

To be honest no two stores have the same measurements and as a retired person there really shouldn't be any excuse for not having the time. Yes it is a nuisance sorting out all the shopping, undoing the layers, struggling to unloop the hanger and then worst of all looking at the dreadful mirrors which remind you how slim you used to be. lol.Whats the alternative?.........a second trip......not worth it. -jl

I find it amazing how dress sizes vary.

In my wardrobe I have skirts that the label says are sizes 18 - 24 but measure the waist bands & they are all the same!

If I buy oh trousers they are the size that the label states, so why do women's clothes sizes vary?

Bobtainian and Merlin, so you think I have not thought of this myself. Shows how many times you have accompanied your wives/partners to buy clothes.
Womens trousers are not hung on the hangers in the same way that mens are, in a nice sharp centre leg Navy crease down the front, so you can ascertain the shape.
No, they are draped in the same way as a skirt is.
But then, how many of you go and buy your own trousers. It is usually left to the wife, who knows instantly what your fit is

Julia, ever thought of taking a pair of your own trousers with you and comparing them for size etc. might save you a double trip. :-D :-D

Good idea Merlin, to try and get my bus fare out of them, but alas, one look at me, and they will know I have a bus pass. They could always offer me a free drink of coffe, though.
Shelly, i am not so bothered if I have to shorten trousers a little. It is all the fabric that you can grasp in handfuls at the back of the thigh top.
Supercrutch, I am afraid it is back to the 'one size fits all'., syndrome. But it is the sizes within the 'one size' And that is just in one particular store. Go to another, and their sizes are as different again, from the first shop.
Blouses, and tops etc. are not quite the problem for me as trousers. Un fortunately, I rarely have time to use changing rooms, as it is usually a 'whistle stop tour' for me when shopping. Thank the Lord I seldom do it

I am not vertically challenged and all manufacturers of womens' clothing seem to think that a 32" inside leg is the most thats required!

I have to cough up for expensive Long Tall Sally trousers or buy men's jeans.

As for blouses, dresses etc., I ignore all labels and just measure across bust and hips before I take item to changing rooms.

Well very very vexed of Derbyshire,what can you expect when they are more than likely made in a sweatshop overseas,? however perhaps you could persuede them to pay your transport costs, or at least cheekily ask for them. Disgusted of Tunbridge.PMSL. :-D :-D :-D

Last week I bought a couple of pairs of jeans, and a pair of Olive Cotton trousers from that 'Jewish Emporium' on the high street, that belonged to Lord Sieff
I knew I would have to shorten them,so this morning after finishing the i*****g, I laid the first pair of jeans on the i*****g board whilst it was up. After pressing out all the creases, and getting the legs level, I laid a pair of my own ontop to get the leg length.
Well, I am not joking, when I say that there was enough fabric in the top back legs, to make me another pair, and around the ankles was no better.
Why do manufacturers of trousers not realise that just because a person has a large tum or b*m, it does not necessarily mean they have great big legs, or fat ankles.
I have done plenty of dressmaking in my time, and I am not joking when i say that even I was able to make trousers that fit me.
Now tomorrow, although I was going into Derby anyway, I have got to take all of the items back. I am so annoyed. Can't people get anything right. It is not hard, is it.,
