I think it's ingrained, probably genetic. Look at xmas - the shops are shut for 2 days max and people do enough shopping for 3 months on the off chance there is going to be a nuclear strike in the meantime. The look of wide eyed panic on peoples faces as they last minute dash round for those elusive after eights and cheesy straws is hilarious :-)

I suppose it stems from the days when you had to put enough by to see you through the bad times - the gene is still functioning in lots of people who haven't managed to overide it by using advanced brain functions.

Now, where did I put those jerrycans.............

we never panc bought the butler refused to cue for petrol, n said when we run out we run out,

Yes, the MP was stupid but I don't see the woman's stupidity as a direct result of his. But I do agree with Muffy. Seems to me 'we' endlessly complain about the government interfering too much, but when they say 'buy', 'we' jump!! If there was a suggestion to stand on our heads, eating a pork pie whilst singing Abide With Me, would we all do it? ;-) Free will and all that...

Perhaps I have caught the stupid gene.
'cos I always thought that A Jerry Can was a guzzunder!

OK, I know that you can't catch a gene, not even a stupid one.
But thought that storing petrol in the home was frowned uppon by Fire Safety people.
Was therefore surprised to hear that it had been recommended,, because of safety issues.
Never mind the panic buying.

By the way, there has been so much panic buying at my local supermarket, that they have now run out of panic!!!

Stupidity cannot be cured. I've tried several recommended remedies on myself - as you can judge, I'm still the same. I continue to be an analogue person in a digital age.

Maybe I should edify contributors to this thread by my future silence.

Not only did she fill the cans up in the kitchen, she did it while the gas was on :-0

StrayKitten

StrayKitten Report 30 Mar 2012 16:42

i dnt think its her fault she set herself on fire, he suggested filling your jerry cans at the petrol station,

he didnt suggest filling ya jerry can at the petrol station then going home n transfering it to another bottle in your kitchen, whilst your ovens on :-S :-S

i dont drive and even i know thats stupid,

altho he should be sacked for encouraging the panic buying that has caused havoc round here!

Eldrick

Eldrick Report 30 Mar 2012 16:19

Oh, Im all in favour of sacking him for being equally as stupid, that's for sure. In fact, I would put him a couple of rungs higher up the stupid ladder, but I suppose being an MP and having not the slightest grasp of the realities of life actually go hand in hand.

I don't blame him for the woman setting herself on fire - she was bound to do something like that sooner or later with that degree of empty headedness, but he should carry the can for creating the panic mentality. If they all had to fall on their swords when they cock things up, there would be fewer cock ups. See, Darwin again :-)

Maybe he should resign for being stupid enough to suggest it in the first place.

Susan10146857 Report 30 Mar 2012 16:08

Perhaps it is because there 'are' people in the country who 'will' do daft things that the MP should take some of the responsibility for what happened.

Not everyone has a full set of cards when it comes to what is stupid and what is not. I am not sure he should resign but maybe reprimanded for his part in inciting a panic. He is an MP after all.

Edit:- I don't feel strongly either way.....just putting another perspective on the subject

Eldrick Report 30 Mar 2012 16:03

As I said on another thread, proof of Darwins Theory of Evolution. Those with the stupid gene will hurt themselves whenever it kicks in.

It's a bit like me blaming the landlord when I choke on a peanut after drinking 8 pints of Extra strength double brewed Belgian Sheepdip lager.

Muffyxx

Muffyxx Report 30 Mar 2012 15:44

Calls for an MP to resign because he suggested filling jerry cans up with petrol and storing them .....woman then injured because she filled up her can WITH HER GAS COOKER ON !

How on earth is that the MP's fault?

The world has gone crazy !!!!!
