hello all,

Kim that is typical of the young ones. When we bought ours the grand
children turned their noses up at it this year they are both going to be
parents and suddenly the caravan looks good for holidays.

Elizabeth I agree my caravan has all mod cons, plenty space and a
feel good factor on site.

Puss I wish i did own the site.

I used to rent statics regularly when I was younger - - for the same money you would never be able to rent a hotel suite with two or three bedrooms, living room, shower and kitchen, with the luxury of not being limited by anybody's timetables.

Kim from Sandhurst Report 29 Mar 2012 12:33

We had a static, near Pevensey, for 10 years, sold it 3 years ago and regret it terribly. Problem was there was absolutely nothing on our site and son started to refuse to come with me so couldn't see the point of keeping it on when it wasn't being used.

Guess what the toe-rag says now?....'Mum I wish we still had the van as me and mates could have gone away for the weekend'...!! argghhhhh!!!

I loved that van, it was my home from home and sanctuary.

Emma
I'm sure we will have a good time in out tent. We usually do.
A couple of years ago we invested in a new tent when I thought my camping days were over.

I was tired of sleeping under an umbrella in the tent when it rained :-S :-S :-S
I agreed to give it one more go if we bought a new tent.

I'm really glad I did as my son and DIL and their children also camp and we've had great fun with the children.
The reason I would like a motorhome is for overnight stays if we go to records offices or fancy just a few days away.
My OH retires on Friday so I'm hoping we will have a hot summer so we can have some time away.
Take care
Von

We have a static caravan which we have yet to open up after the winter, so that's nearly a month gone already. Trouble is, other things take our time then when we are free the weather is not always great and we think we might as well watch the rain from indoors instead of travelling for an hour to do so.
Our's is not big, but the layout is like a small bungalow, so I don't find it claustrophobic.
It's an expensive item if you don't use it much, as site fees have increased no end, but for spur of the moment, "Let's go away for a few days" it's good to have a bolt hole.

You have hit the nail on the head Merlin :-D

It took me a while to get used to having a caravan Ann. OH used to caravan as a child and thought it was great and had talked of wanting one for several years

After our youngest was born I had a moment of post natel madness wondering where we would go on holiday with two children with a 7 year age gap. Once I had uttered the words " I suppose we should look at caravans" bingo there one was! the youngest went on his first hols in October 1998 in the caravan and was only 8 weeks old.

It did take a couple of years to get used to it but we have been to parts of the country we would never have visited and had some good holidays.

Teresa our site like others has its rules etc.one
thing is that no tents, or temporary vans allowed,
but there is a site further on that caters for people
who park up short term.

Ann can see that this type of holiday is not everyones
cup of tea. My daughter is claustrophobic and though
she visits us for a day hasn't felt she could sleep there.

Those were the days when for a small fee you could park up in a Farmers field for a few nights, and really enjoy the countryside (Fresh Eggs and Milk off the farm and sometimes home cured ham) its too organised now and too many restrictions.I expect Teresa belongs to the CC.of GB.they used to be pretty good and had a good list of sites to stay.Lots of memories, now I prefer "Comfort" :-D.Hotels with good restaraunts and food, and of course a decent Bar. However to those of you who still enjoy your caravans, Enjoy, before more restrictions or Taxes take it away from you. ;-)

AnninGlos Report 28 Mar 2012 14:39

Sorry had a couple of holidays in caravans and didn't enjoy them at all, just felt too claustrophobic for me, preferred to hire chalets in places like Hos*****s when the kids were small and partments, cottages for us now. Rarely stay in hotels, only short stays in Shear****.

Merlin a travellers life for you then. It is such
an adventure for the children. Sixty years ago
my folks had a caravan on the same site we are
on now, I loved every minute we spent there, and
it was just a field at that time with about 5/6 vans
on it. There was an open fire outside the vans where
food was cooked on, wouldn't get away with that today.

Touring vans are great, especially if you have children, when I had mine I used to go away most weekends in it,not so much in winter, but as soon as the weather picked up off we would go. :-D

Julia Report 28 Mar 2012 14:21

We have spent many happy hours over the years, caravaning, either on our own, or years ago, with the children. Much prefer it to Hotels etc. No restrictions, eat when you like, sleep when you like, and come in when you like. Can't beat it.

We were away in our caravan in the Feb half term in Brighton Emma. We woke up on the first morning to -5 degrees. It was that cold snap we had.

Off again in June to Sussex and August to Pembrokeshire.

Our van is heated and warmer than our house at times!
