I would prefer to use the Term ethnic minorities as opposed to "Blacks" because we the British come in all colours with differing cultural and religious believes.

Well perhaps someone would like to amend their term of 'whites' then!

Ann, That's the problem now in this country,

If you say any thing on any subject about any one who is not White British people think you are being racist,

How ever any one who is NOT white British are allowed to say as they like with out being held to account

Sad world when the racist card is used to stop any one's right to air their views and opinion

These issues will never be sorted out if people are not allowed to have a debate about all views from all sides of the community.

You cannot enforce some one's beliefs on others you have to win the argument through debate

Just got back on GR
the thread was just to point out this person & family are living in our country & getting house`ing benefit £1.900.a month
No colour or creed was mentioned just wanted peoples thoughts on it ..
I will say this no one should be allowed to walk the streets with their faces completely covered .as was in the photo of Abu Qatada & a companion

I didn’t see the original thread and to be honest I tend avoid them like the plague, as you begin to read “ I am not racist but!!!” My heart begins to sink knowing that my eyes are going to have to digest and subjected to the biggest load of racist armchair/bus stop/ pub politics of ignorance urban myths, well it must be true I read it in the news paper. :-(

Porkie_Pie Report 26 Mar 2012 18:53

Sue, I will qualify my post re White British

I have on more than one occasion my self had Racist remarks aimed at me from British ethnic minorities in the past and also seen these same racist remarks aimed at our own British police officers who are also from our ethnic minorities and the racist card does get used against them in the hope the police would let them off with what ever offence they had committed and they never got prosecuted for their racist remarks

So i see no need to amend my post

and because imho racist's are not defined by their colour but by their beliefs

Personally...I don't much like the term "ethnic minorities"... I don't like the term "minorities" it implies 'voicelessness' (is that a word? lol) .

We are none of us white (unless you're a true albino) we are all varied worm colour :-D ( there now I've insulted everyone by comparing you to worms ;-) but I LIKE worms!).

Re Abu Qatada...there is an argument to be made that £500K is a smallish price to pay to keep him where we can see what he's doing ?.."....keep your enemy closer" and all that !

supercrutch

supercrutch Report 26 Mar 2012 18:58

Then Roy, I maintain my term Black Britsh is equally valid. Ethnic minority assumes you are a White Anglo Saxon Protestant and the rest of the population is not!

The thread has naff all to do with racism it concerns the ridiculous EU court and their over ruling of our courts' verdicts.

Porkie_Pie Report 26 Mar 2012 19:17

Sue, I was not criticizing you or any one else but merely stating that i would prefer the term Ethnic minority because their are more than one section of the community that at of a different Ethnic background

If you would prefer to use another term "Blacks" then that is up to you but Ethnic minority groups come in all colours not just "Black"

Mads Report 26 Mar 2012 21:51

To be honest Roy, if you called my kids (grown up now) "Ethnic minorities: they would find that offensive, if you asked my OH what he was he would say black, so on this point i agree with Sue.

supercrutch

supercrutch Report 26 Mar 2012 22:13

Thank you Mads :-D

The whole point is: no matter what ethnicity, sex or creed all undesirables should be treated the same, let's term it 'repatriated'.

Rambling Report 26 Mar 2012 22:26

Wikipedia has a wonderful list of 'ethnicgroups" :-D many I have never heard of

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lists_of_ethnic_groups

"British – citizens of the United Kingdom." that is irrespective of colour..

Mads

Mads Report 26 Mar 2012 22:33

Correct me if im wrong but the last known PC term i heard was "dual heritage"

Yet if you are asked by police what your ethnic background is, my kids would be mixed race white/black carribean,

I always tell them be proud of what you are, for you have the gift of both worlds.

Too many for me too Rose, never heard of many of them .

ChrisofWessex

ChrisofWessex Report 26 Mar 2012 22:39

This has wandered off the point (as do many of our threads) however we were speaking of a man who entered this country illegally/on false documents and then claimed political asylum as his life was threatened if he returned to his own country - his OWN family there at the time stated his life was not endangered. He has been allowed to stay here, live well and not do a stroke of work in return.

This is not racist. As I said earlier I do not care what his creed/colour is, I would apply the same rules to any man/woman who replicate the above circumstances.

Porkie_Pie

Porkie_Pie Report 26 Mar 2012 22:43

Mads, I am sorry if any one takes offense to my post re ethnic minorities but as sue said her self this thread is supposed to be about Abu Qatada and I believe that as sue was entitled to say Black British then it is equally valid to say white British albe it i did post first, and it is also true that because all sections including other minority groups regardless of colour, religious and cultural believes are equally up in arms about this man and the fact the EU court are stopping us from deporting him

I also have "black" friends and they are split on what is acceptable and what is not acceptable, one in particular hates being called black British but says he is British pure and simple and you get the same thing when you talk to our Asian and Muslim friends So what i say is if different cultures cannot agree what chance do people like me and many others have of getting it right,

Roy

Mads

Mads Report 26 Mar 2012 22:57

Like you say Roy, he is British,

Sue made a validpoint and i agreed, God only knows what i am coz im not British if you go on my parents ethnicity. But i am British,

Now maybe time to get back to the thread as intended before this escalates.

Porkie_Pie

Porkie_Pie Report 26 Mar 2012 23:08

Mads, I don't think its just about being ( British ) those who are here legally but not British are just as entitled to their views and opinions and i am not worried about debating any of this on here or another thread,

I personally have said what i wanted on this thread so if any one wants to add any thing else then they can

Roy
