Doctor says he is going to go on for ever.

Picture it now. No more worlds, no more sun, no more galaxies. Just a wheelchair rolling on through space with an old bugger moaning about his tele box!

Linda

Linda Report 10 Mar 2012 14:30

There has been a huge amount of help offered. I doubt it could have been carried out more efficiently.

We have had all the correspondence and we already had the set-top box. I prepared early so that he would be ready. You can lead a horse to water.

Sharron Report 10 Mar 2012 10:39

How do you know him then?

My mates old dad was bed ridden but they seemed to have burglars every time she nipped out to the shops.

WhiffingSiggs Report 10 Mar 2012 10:19

He's probably pretending. The minute you've gone he's flicking through the channels, plugging his x-box in and having a whale of a time.

Sharron

Sharron Report 10 Mar 2012 10:08

Is she looking for a husband?

Linda

Linda Report 9 Mar 2012 21:56

I bought my mum a box at christmas, the change over starts next month where she lives, when it was installed her comment was "you should not be paying for this the goverment should has they are the ones that want this". Every time I go down shes not got the box turned on, and if I say anything to her she just says I'll learn how to do it when the time comes.

About five years ago I bought her a new tv but she would not have the the tv with box because in her words I might not be around when we change over, talk having to eat your words. Mind you she is 89.

I am not struggling Janet. I know him.

Those who have been involved in his assessments have always been very impressed with what he can do.

We will go through the stand-off period as we always do.Then he will finally have a go and find he can do it.

I gave him the remote on his first evening back home from the hospital. He tried to tell me he couldn't use it and I explained that he would have to watch that channel day and night until he could. He thought it might be a good idea to have a go and found he could do it after all.

Janet Report 9 Mar 2012 14:25

Perhaps it might be better for an occupational therapist to access his capabilities then that way he is getting a fair chance and you are not struggling to cope with what must be a challenging situation- jl

Sharron Report 8 Mar 2012 11:03

He has had over six months to get the hang of it.

Git that I am, I'm a thoughtful git. Thought it all through, gave him plenty of time, showed him how to do it, stayed around at a discrete distance to rectify any mistakes he might have made.

He made big show of ignoring the remote because that is where my git genes came from you see.

Now his recalcitrance has come back to bite him on the bum!

Well I have every sypmpathy with him. I don't think it's easy for the elderly to learn new things.
I'm not even elderly yet (I don't think) and I hate it when new stuff comes out on mobile phones, computers etc...cos I'm a complete numpty with new things.
There - you can give him my sympathy :-) :-)

Sharron

Sharron Report 8 Mar 2012 10:56

You've met him then Kay.

If I did that I would feel a bit guilty if it rained.

Well, people going by might have to step out into a puddle to get past him.
Oh, no, that would be alright. They probably would have crossed over to the other side of the road already.

Sharron Report 8 Mar 2012 10:41

I don't want to touch his television.

He just needs to learn how to change channels himself. At the moment he is doing martyred so we can all appreciate how he is going without watching it. Poor old soul!

Janet

Janet Report 8 Mar 2012 10:36

Well as one who dreads anyone touching my television or the two remote controls, I have every sympathy for your dad. So there- lol- jl

Sharron

Sharron Report 8 Mar 2012 10:33

Fred, i change the batteries.

He even has somebody to wipe his bum.You would think changing channels wouldn't be too much to ask.

He had better not take to shouting every time he wants to change channels or the wipers may find themselves with an extra task!
