or have been in the past that was interesting or better than you expected?

Dan and I were talking about having a day out as we can't afford to stay over anywhere, so just pondering on where is within easy reach that would have something interesting to us both :-D

It Depends on where you are situated, I try to get down to the New Forest. its nice and tranquil there if you go out of season. or else a decent Rose Garden Like David Austin. nice pubs in Albrighton for a light meal etc and I usually end up buying a few roses.**M**.

minihousenut I'm in Shropshire, has to be on the train routes so was thinking of Ludlow, but as the weather's about to turn cold might have to delay for a while lol.

Still interested to know what people have enjoyed though :-D

From here, Rose, usually up Derbyshire, somewhere. Plenty of choices, and we do have the lovely Chatsworth House. Also by the canals on these lower levels. But, definitely around a Garden Centre, especially if it is not one we have been to before.
Also, in the summer, we like to go and look at other peoples gardens, that they open for MacMillan Nurses.
Wouldn't mind a day out around your place' minihousenut.' As you say, some lovely places around there to go.

Merlin, I will be getting a rose for the garden this year, well I say the garden, it is for outside the front window which has about 4 feet of grass and looks straight out on an unmade road and lots of parked cars :( so I need something pretty to look out at and to stop people peering in so much lol.

Well you,re not too far from David Austins, also he,s on line ,you can see them and order them to be delivered, he has so many, but the newer ones with the old fashioned fragrances are good, the plus is that lots of the usual snags with the old ones have been bred out. :-D

I'd like to get one similar to the one I left behind in Wales Merlin, pinky/peach/yellow with a very strong scent of tea and oranges :-D but hopefully one less prone to blackspot lol.

Always loved Ironbridge & Blists Hill. Something new to see every time & not too far from you.
As my Dad used to say, If I was going there, I wouldn´t start from here in the first place. ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-)

lol Wisechild I use " If I was going there, I wouldn´t start from here in the first place." myself :-) I may do that actually as though Dan has been down there on his bike I haven't yet , which is silly as it's so close, but having moved several times I just haven't got around to it.

Merlin I will do that today :-D

Got the gist of the thread now Rose. Well, if Dan is involces and a train journey, how about York. I believe there is a military museum there, and a rail museum also. In any case, it is historic.

York is a beautiful city - I think the most ineresting of all the cathederal cities.

To heal my soul - beside a beach on a stormy day.

We usually go to National Trust places- houses or gardens. Or, like Julia garden centres. I believe Ludlow is a nice place to visit, what about Shrewesbury or is that too close?
Difficult as I don't know where your trains go.
Worcester, Warwick - castle is expensive but good.
Stratford on Avon.

minihousenut my side of the Cotswolds or South? As you say lots of places there to visit but difficult by rail.

Mersey Report 27 Jan 2012 19:47

Land of Lost Content in Craven Arms.

It is brilliant and most of my home and clothing features somewhere in it.

We have to have days out because I need to be here at night.but we do have cars to go out.
Have you thought of coach trip?.I love them. It is good to let somebody else find the way and do the driving.

Some of the travelodges have some pretty good deals. You have to remember that there is a breakfast usually included in the price so it is one you won't have to pay for at home.If you can manage to eat enough of it you can save the price of a lunch too!

We're lucky. Live in South Yorks so the Yorks Dales, Lincs Wolds, North Yorks Moors in easy reach by car. We like the East coast - Staithes, Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay etc etc. Sometimes visit the Lake District tho thats about a 3 hour run and at least 320 miles round trip. Cleethorpes in N lincs only about 55 minutes away. We also belong to the National Trust and often visit some of their places

Small world!

We went to Bliths Hill and Ironbridge today, Rose. (Pics on FB)

We had a lovely day and will be going back to do some of the other museums.

We'll be snowdrop hunting next month.
