Hi All.

Kaz.
P.S. Anyone else's gone back to the old style?

Mine has also gone back to the 'old' style of tree.

I wrote to GR and said that I did not want the 'new' tree, and that we should have the option, and I preferred the old tree.

So maybe if you want to continue with the old tree you can, you only have to ask.

:-D

Oh brilliant mine is back as well, much nicer and easier to read. Only thing is is that all the details are missing and with over 500 people on it will take a lot of work putting it all back.

Caz

Oh I have just read the pm above mine, not got it for long then.

Now that ain't good news, :>(( if it's gone back to the old style.......why can't they just leave it alone & keep us happy!.......We should be given a choice to have or to have not!!

Hi all

I complained bitterly about the new tree and was just about to give up with genes and lo and behold mine has gone back to the old style tree too-wonderful!!!!! Hope it stays that way-the new style took about 10 times as long as the old to enter anything up and even then it got it wrong

The old tree is back for the weekend. i think they're going to revert back to the new tree and sort out the problems next week.

Kaz. Report 21 Jan 2012 20:16

Just a thought...........
If they have gone back to the old tree........Why not keep it as it is? Or let us that like the old tree use it & others if they want to use the new tree......I would of thought in this day & age it would be Simples :-D

Perhaps if we bombard them with "thank yous" for letting us have our old wonderful tree back they might let us keep it. Or, perhaps they should take a vote of all members - new tree or old. Bet I know what would win by several zillion!!

ElizabethK - if you're still looking for Gedcom - click Family tree (oldstyle!) and you willl get the options "My tree" and "Import Gedcom". If you then click "Import Gedcom" you will also get the instructions to "export Gedcom"!

I would think they are watcing the emails sent on here cos one i sent got sent for review, only cos i said i hated the new tree it then re-appeared but now all the messages have now vannished

I think we should also have a vote as to which tree we want as after all we are members......... :-D

I am a bit inexperienced with Gedcom. Can anyone help me with how I export it to some other device. Is it exported to a CD or to your hard drive or what? Do I need special software to do it. I would not like to do anything to risk losing my genes tree as I have over 13000 entries on it.

Thanks

Hover your curser over the button at the top of the page where it says ‘Family Tree’. The drop down box gives the option ‘import GEDCOM’. Click that. A new page opens and the instructions are all there. The Export Tree is on the left of the page. The original stays on this site - its a copy which is exported.

As I understand it, the gedcom is sent as an attachment to an email. You can then save it to where ever you wish. You won’t be able to view the tree unless you have a suitable Family Tree programme to do so. There are several free versions available to download; you’d need to do an internet search to find them.
