I can't say I've noticed overkill of any of these :-S

Sure I'm aware that 2012 has several important events/anniveraries but I'm not looking for more about them.

Have to put my hands up and admit to being a bit of a titanic *ghoul*..I watch and read all about it with avid interest...it's a period in history I'm especially *fond of* (if that makes sense)...Edwardian era always seems so elegant and civilized..before the war came and changed everthing..though I know that it was far from perfect when you read further into the times..it still fascinates me so Titanic is just an extension of that for me

Not so keen on all the Olympic hype though...they can keep that lol x

I agree with you Ann - in this family we groaned when we found out we had 'won' the Olympics.

The Jubilee - again different - our Queen is to be admired for her stamina alone over the years.

Titanic - for some reason or other there are those who are obsessed with RMS Titanic and anything remotely connected with her. If they can afford to they indulge this beyond belief. It was a tragedy.

We have always found the hype surrounding the film of the Titanic distasteful, and now won't watch the new play by Julian Fellowes for the same reason, they seem to seek to glamorize an extremely sad event.

I too am already fed up with the olympics and being told how proud I should be that they are to be held here. I never wanted them here in the first place, like to see our athletes do well but am convinced it is going to cost us too much. I don't think any country that has held the olympics has come out better off.

the jubilee, well that is an achievement but I hope it isn't thrust down our throats too much.

There is a film to be released this year, done by Julian Fellows of Downton Fame.
Don't we know everything there is to know from all the other films about it.

I agree.

What with the Titanic and the Olympics thrust down our throats as well plus the Royal Jubilee too we have a lot not to look forward to this year.....!

Am beginning already to be fed up with the word in this the centenary year. Every night it is mentioned on BBC or ITV. There are 100 new books published - what is there new to be said?

The cruise will take place from Southampton sailing on the same date - the cheapest fare apparently around £5000, the same number of passengers , many of the passengers will dress in the period. Same menus, same music.

Is this just me or is this taking things too far? Commercialisim at its worst.

I have no beef with Memorial Services etc., and respect being shown for those who lost their lives be they rich or poor.
