My Dad has been dead for over 20 years, but always used to predict two films that would be on year after year at Christmas.
Ahmal & the Night Visitors & Torah Torah Torah.
He could virtually predict the day & time they would be showing, so repeats are not a recent thing

Can't stand Morecombe and Wise....bleeding years of being made to watch it when My Mum's parents came to visit.....urggggggggggh i know most seem to disagree with me but I think they're about as funny as toothache.

Glad I skyplussed Downtown Abbey as I refuse to sit through the HUNDREDS of ads !!! They really ought to do something about that..it's like watching wall to wall ads with a bit of period drama thrown in as an afterthought.

Didn't fancy any of the films myself..though I skyplussed The Borrowers for the girls to watch whenever.

I was actually quite grateful the TV was so poor...gave me more of an excuse to go off and do other stuff.x

Well what did you people think of the latest version of "Ben Hur" on last night.? never seen such an "Efete" load of people, (With the exception of one).My opinion, It was a Load of C--p. :-S (and thats the polite wording)

The Three men in a Boat - looking for a boat to sail to the Statue of Liberty was very good.

Watched a DVD Christmas Eve - John Bishop - very good but have not watched as yet any which came as gifts. Got 7 books and recorded a lot mainly films shown during day on Sky etc. At least during the day there is no violence or grunt and groan and last night watched Richard Gere and Susan Saradon - seen it before but enjoyed it.

I can honestly say I did not watch a single DVD over Christmas. Last night I watched Frozen Planet (wonderful photography), Country file, It will be all right on the night with Griff Rys Jones whichw as quite a chuckle. I wonder if our expectations are too high and we view the past on TV through the old rose coloured specs!

Lee, Good Morning, in the past, when we have bought DVD's at Christmas, I have had to tell the OH, not to want to play them, when there are good things to watch on the telly. Not nowadays. If people didn't buy DVD's at Christmas, they would have nothing to watch.

I do think though that we reply on television to much for our entertainment.I 'm not a big watcher of it and soaps I dont watch but like programes that inform me or carry on educating me of stuff that I didnt know.. :-D :-D :-D-----

when growing up we never had tele on christmas day till evening to calm us down for bed or watch good family stuff but then thats all we had so thought anything was wonderful of things you never saw in everyday life or had.

If it wasn't for the dozen DVD's that i ordered from Amazon to watch over christmas, Christmas would have been a disaster as a result of the carp that all main stream chanels featured.
Talk about dumbing it down they all were a disgrace :-|

After Emmerdale and CountryWise Kitchen, we had to resort to watching a DVD for the rest of last night. It was the new Andre Rieu playing in Mexico, and very entertaining it was too.
I have come to this conclusion. I think the television programmers and the DVD manufacturers, are working hand in glove. That is my opinion, and I am sticking to it. LOLOL

My old Dad, soon to be 90, has a long held theory, that the television programmers are hand in glove with the brewery's. over Saturday night television choice. As the brewery's are not doing aswell these days, for a variety of reasons, they have called upon the programmers to drive people to drink, and go out and fill their pubs. That is his opinion and He is also sticking to it. LOL

Bought the tv mag for next week, and the N.Y. Eve and Day programmes are even worse than those over Christmas. On N.Y. Eve is Pirates of the Caribbean and then Match of the Day. The Alan Carr show on Ch. 4 looks more entertaining.

I kept falling asleep apart from when Downton was on. Loved that. Managed to catch up on Emmerdale and Corrie and saw a lot of Wheeler Dealers.

I agree not a very good Christmas programme. I don't know why they bother.

I did enjoy a bit of nostalgia watching nearly all Of Seven Brides for seven Brothers (missed the first bit) Used to love Howard Keel.

you know what else that annoys me?
for example take Top Gear repeats .......it would be nice, on the EPG if they showed R, and the date of the original program........

short series' of a car is born, or a plane is born.....why dont they show them in sequence and also indicate when the next in series will be shown? instead of stumbling upon them?

I don´t actually mind repeats up to a point. What I don´t understand is out of a series of programmes, when they show a repeat, it´s the same one over & over again.
The only thing I have watched over the holiday was Goodnight Mr Tom, which I stumbled on by accident one morning. I can´t even remember which channell.

Janet.
thanks for your replies. If Shakespeare was made serious on here there would be no members left.
My tongue in cheek comment was aimed at all those who replied and not at anyone in particular.

No-one has yet come on and explained how we can have a plethora of new programmes at Christmas. Just not possible. Even the worst off amongst us have 5 channels and of course nearly everybody has a sight more.

Still love the Andre Rieu concerts so I will leave with the Shakespeare Twelfth night opening, learned 70 years ago, which perhaps can be translated into watching too much tele "If music be the food of love, play on, give me excess of it so that surfeiting, the appetite will sicken and thence die".

Take everything I say with a pinch of salt. Very best wishes.

Happy days

Harry I think any parodied version of Hamlet is a bit too much- (sharp intake of breath) - and as for a posse catching someone.....well words fail me- jl
