The other boy was Prince John who was epileptic and died young.

I think they are a very hard hearted family but really don't know how I would have been had I lived in their circumstances.

Prince Edward's daughter has that problem that causes her eyes to be out of line. It was lovely to see her as a bridesmaid but I think the family are in a position to make this condition higher profile for the sake of all the other children who suffer from it.

I wonder if the real reason Charles, Anne, Andrew and Edward all married 'commoners' was because they were encouraged to do so, rather than it being by chance, thereby diluting any defective genes the Royal family had - since they'd been marrying within the family for so many years. ;-)

Ordinary people did have children put to be cared for in an instuition but never acted grander and more above class than anyone else ..the ordinary person felt guilt that it had to be done they didnt hav the means to employ a nanny or live in grandour ,these often had more than 3 children in cramped rented housing and earned a low wage,,,,,,,,,did the Bowes-Lyons,,,,,,,,,no........them children were put there in 1941.......in 1947 the queen married and could make her own choices and later in 1953 became queen........dont tell me in all those years something couldnt have been arranged privately......and since to the remaining one who is 85 and never seen a living relative in person since 1941.........ashamed they should be.

So appallingly sad. Very obviously, such things cut across all classes. I agree, the Queen Mum's affiliation to Mencap makes me speechless.

These girls should have enjoyed regular family contact from even one individual to give them something to live for, the knowledge that somebody cared for them. It makes me shudder to think of all the airs and graces afforded to royalty, who snub those who do not bow and scrape low enough, yet who have shunned their own.

They should have been cared for in a home of their own, financed by the royals, by nursing staff, dressed in their own clothes, enjoyed the warmth of family love, received visitors, gifts and a simple family funeral. It is what all individuals with learning difficulties deserve if their families are unable to cope with them, and have the means to provide.

It is sad but also I have full cousins who if they came to my door would not know them - others we are in constant contact. Should the Royals be different?

We will never know the ins and outs - could be that the mother gave out that they had died when she put them in the home. Easy enough to do as I have previously said in those troubled times and also travel was not easy.

and she only died in 1989 years after my dad had died
she was married and had three children and they had married to

Maybe ehe queen had enough with her mother in law, Princess Andrew of Greece who spent her last years at Buckingham Palace, dressed as a nun, marching about chain smoking Woodbines.

She sounds like a right old card, is this Prince Philip's mother? I wish I had known her!
