Are the school correct in demanding this child modifies his hair style or do you think his parents are right to kick up a stink about it?

My opinion...his education is more important than making a statement with a wonky (sorry but it is lol) haircut. He's 11 yrs old FGS.... A CHILD...who imho should do as he is told....time enough to be showing individuality when he's older.

High school is there to prepare you for the real world...and in all honesty if I were looking to employ him when he's older...with that attitude and that haircut the answer would be a big fat no...however clever or charming the child might/might not be x

Back combing for the girls seems to be back in fashion judging by some of them on their way to school.

Would they be doing the same for a boy with long hair ?

At my Eldest's school they'd be made to go and brush it out...they're not allowed to make fashion statements like that..it's in the school/parent/pupil contract.. One girl backcombed her hair around a hand band/scarf thing and her hair accessory was confiscated..she walked around all day with wild hair as it was so backcombed it wouldn't brush out properly...mind...it was neatly tied back the next day lolololol.

He looks a bit daft but he's not harming anyone.

As long as it doesn't affect their work who cares what the pupils look like. I remember when I was at school a boy was sent home for dying his hair red... for Comic Relief!!! :-P

If thats the rule of the School and his Parents signed up to it ( Media sourced) then he should abide by it.**M**.

His parents must have been aware of the school rules before he started there. Both he and his parents should abide with them.

hmmm, altho he does look silly, IMHO, hes there to learn and his haircut is NOT guna hinder that,

however,,,

its like any school they have rules tha have to be followed, and if hes breaking them then they should be dealt with like anyone who breaks the rules

School should be allowed to dictate how the children present themselves in class. He can be as much as an individual as he likes when not in uniform but make him conform. He'll have to learn that lesson when he's an adult in employment.

Yes but I think school uniforms and hair rules are good for levelling things between children so that those whose parents can afford the fancy stuff don't bully/belittle the 'have nots.'

Children need hairstyles that enable them to see properly to do their schoolwork and if long should be tied back to help prevent headlice spreading or from catching in gym apparatus or catching fire in kitchens/labs.

His mother says it makes him more confident........why?.......because it makes him look or behave tough to other children who could be intimidated. What about their work being affected. It is a warrior hairdo after all. He should at least brush it flat for school.

Totally inappropriate. Perhaps the school should rubber stamp the word 'Prat' or similar on his forehead. Mind you his parents look as though they need a stamping too.....!

Nothing wrong with the haircut, individuality is supposed to be something schools like, so I cannot see what the problem is.
My son had the very same haircut, he'd spend ages getting his hair to stand on end in the morning, he took great pride in his appearance as far as school uniform goes, there was never a problem, even when he changed colour to his hair and went bright red!
I cannot see how a haircut can interfere with his learning ability.
