I went to a cemetry 2 weeks ago............armed with 2 buckets, a bag of peat, secateaurs, dust pan and brush, rubbish bag, a bag of quick drying cement, washing up liquid, camera ,flowers, egg sandwiches, cream cake, orange juice, picnic blanket......(Well i had to have something to do whilst the cement was drying!!)
It was "dead quiet" until i started on my picnic and i saw two elderly gentleman heading in my direction!
They stopped quite close to me and together they began tidying a grave that had obviously been neglected for some time.
I am sure they took as many sneaky peeks at me, as i did at them.
As soon as the cement had dried, i replaced the two buckets of green stones i had removed and washed earlier and then made my way over to the water tap to fill the vase for my flowers.
One of the elderly gentleman walked over to the tap at the same time carrying a vase.
He said.........."Excuse me, but can i just say"
I thought..........oh, oh"
He continued......"Watching how busy you have been and to see you picnicking beside a grave who i assume belongs to a loved one, was a truly wonderful sight"
Good job i had two empty buckets to cry in!!

Dizzy,
Well done you! I found my graveyard today, but forgot the brush, so went home in much the same state as you. Worth it though, found my gg grandmother, miles away from where she should have been and it's taken me years. Good result!
PS, I've got Hales in my tree, Jacob 1667 in Kent, any relation? :-)

This thread is making me laugh. Those *glazed looks*, when you're so excited, are very hurtful aren't they. After all, you're doing it for them, aren't you? Aren't you?

Bet, when I've popped my clogs, one (or even 2 or 3) of my offspring will take up the mantle one day and regret that they didn't listen to me, or is that just wishful thinking?

Prickly Holly - your last posting really brought a smile to my face, what a lovely story.
I think you've won the prize for such total grave dedication! Well done!
