Ann i agree with you about the amount .its just to much .the couple .shouldnt have gone public either ..we cant comprehend so much money ..but .I.feel it should be more winn ers & a bit less each ..wouldnt like to have to hide away for the rest of my life .they will be hounded .& unfortunately not be able to enjoy there wealth .Barbra

I think the media immediately ask them what they will spend it on and they have not had time to consider so come up with all the usual. Apparently he didn't want to change cars but she did! No doubt, when they have realised how much accumulates daily they will give some to charity, if only to reduce the amount.

I do think it should have been split into four smaller prizes though, that amount is obscene

We discussed the 'what if' options (not that we had even bought a ticket!) and decided that we would ask Camelot to open an account in Coutts or some other private bank used to handling large sums. Certainly one well away from our local area. Then we'd feed in day to day cash to our current bank account.

When the Lottery first started, it was said that winners with a comfortable financial background were more able to hide the win from the neighbours. If a new car appeared on the drive, they could say that an insurance policy had matured!

Actually, we think that is what one of our neighbours did 15 odd years ago. They suddenly bought 2 'nearly new' cars and had the whole house decorated and re-carpeted. Our offspring asked their offspring if they had won the lottery. The youngest said Yes, the eldest told her off!! :-D

I somehow think people would guess when they saw me spending money or in a new car instead of o.h.'s car, lol, and the smile on my face would be a giveaway too Maybe that's the same with the couple who won.

Wouldn't mind giving it a go lol

I am never sure what entices people to go public when they win such amazing amounts of money. If it were me, I would insist on no publicity naming me or anything that would allow me to be exposed to the public.

They have gone on a bargain package holiday to Spain apparently to avoid everyone while they take things in.

If mail is addressed to them it has to be delivered but all mail just saying The Weirs and the town needn't be delivered, it can be returned as no address but it would take the P.O. a long time to open all those letters to send back to the address inside.

I bet they wish they hadn't gone public now. As word gets round of the exact address, and it's sure to, they will have no peace. The house was shown on tv and it is close to a road, don't think it has a garden with a gate round the front of it so easy for people to get close to the front door.

I read that they have had to move out and the post office have to decide whether to deliver all the begging letters. Some letters are just addressed as 'The Weirs'.....so Bobtanian you know what to do...lol-jl

When they were on the news the other day, there was their announcement etc followed by a report about the children dying of malnutrition in Ethiopia etc. Sort of obscene really. I hope they will help lots of charities, they have enough to make a difference in many places, here and abroad, and still have plenty over.

so thay lost 20,000 pound a day chicken feed compaired to what thay will get in the future it would be fantastic trying to spend £20,000 aday for the rest of your life dream on

It was said in one newspaper that as they didn't claim it right away they were losing £20.000 in intrest.

with the amount of money they have won, they could simply keep the money in an account and live off the return. The return alone would be an enormous amount of money and the capital would be secure. I cannot recall the exact amount they would have, but far more than one could imagine.
Personally I think they are right to try and keep some degree of normality, help their family and possible some friends and then try to maintain some common sense,. How many times has wealth of this magnitude caused stress and pain.?

I have a share in a small group of us, and so far we have won a few small amounts which go straight back into the kitty, it is fun, that is why I play, I never think that we may win a large amount. the chances are so remote.

I understood their reasons for going public, they said they didn't want to have to lie to friends and family
However they didn't seem to want to do much with the money, had it been me I would have mentioned choosing many charities to help, not just say Oh Chris might get a new car and she(Chris) said Chris will get a new car. They aren't planning to move house, they have what looked like quite a nice one and two cars in the drive and just mentioned more foreign travel. Even worse, they said they would be getting tickets again for the lottery, fgs, how much do they want? That's plain greedy!

Not sure I would want the publicity if I won a million or more let alone that huge sum

I wish the family well, but I have to wonder what the average working family would do with this sort of money as it is such a huge amount. How would you handle that kind of win?

Does anyone have the knowhow to show me the way to write a convincing begging letter to them, as Our club needs to build a new clubroom......about 200 grand would be sufficient!!
