I was born and brought up in SE Wales. Every Saturday night my mother would soak the peas with the white tablet that came in the box.

Our butcher made his own faggots, they were the best in the town, so most Thursdays was faggots and peas day, of course the peas were always mushy and were soaked on Wednesday night ready to have with the faggots on Thursday.

I now live between Derby and Nottingham, so have got used to having mushy peas with mint sauce, Oh lovely.

Ann, I've had pureed peas ( mushy) in Betty's in Ilkley , W Yorkshire.

I remember Mushy peas pre 1975 up Sheffield way.

reminds me of a time at a swanky hotel by Gatwick when OH and I (being posh) had lincolnshire sausages, crushed potatoe and shallot gravy. They charged a fortune for it !

Wisechild, you beat me to it, I was going to say that my Derby parents were eating and loving mushy peas in the '40's and '50's. A love that I have inherited!! We used to have the boxes of dried peas with a white tablet.

I LOVE mushy peas too.
They have to be the proper ones, the dried ones you soak over night with the bicarb tablet.
A good pinch of salt and tea spoon of sugar..............lubbly.
Roast dinner, is not roast dinner without mushy peas!

Just like my Mother used to make! x

Oops, did i just dribble........... :-S

AS I remember...didn't they have a green tablet with them as well as the white one?Obviously to make them look more natural.
They were a good staple during the war long before we had frozen peas and couldn't get peas out of season.
