How many sports fans do you know dress in black and take their black bandannas with them just in case their team loses and they are in a riot.

Quite a few if you attended a Millwall V Fulham match in the 1980s lol x

Very true RMS, at least our football fans, and those in Europe to be fair, riot in their own team colours (not that the riots have anything to do with the sport)

Obviously you are a sports fan. How many sports fans do you know dress in black and take their black bandannas with them just in case their team loses and they are in a riot.

I am sure the people of Vancouver are very nice people, but it's not the people of Vancouver that should be shamed of themselves.

That's why I like rugby, athletics/gymnastics and F1. I can't ever remember seeing rhythmic gymnastic fans slogging it out with ribbons, hoops and balls post scoring ;-)

I've visited Vancouver.... the city and the people are lovely...BUT as with any place in the world...you have your bad apples...hooliganism is hooliganism wherever it occurs and it's a shame for all the people who just want to attend the game as a family and enjoy it...but as with football, tribalism and emotions sometimes get out of hand...and whilst it's not pleasant...it's a worldwide phenomenon ... no sense in pointing the finger elsewhere..

Having attended an ice hockey match whilst I was there I'm surprised it doesn't happen more often !! The atmosphere is electric and it's pretty violent on the *pitch*/*rink* whatever they call it as well lol x

That's a bit of a stretch tying the post game rioters and those at the G8 together :-S

A couple of Vancouver residents were interviewed and stated they were ashamed and concerned about the reputation the city will have after this mindless vandalism.

Mud sticks.

Yep, it is only a game. But to some it is very serious.

I don't think it was the fans, It was just some people that like smashing things

On our news, don't know what they said in Vancouver, they said it was probably the same people that rioted at the G8 summit.

Strangely I agree that it was relief not to see mindless idiots rioting in the UK.

Made a jolly nice change ;-)

"(except the puck was made in UK apparently)"

All well, that explains it then........it's all our fault ;-) ;-)

Good to see you back TW :-)

According to the rest of the world it's only us Brits who have hooliganism and sport related rioting...(lets forget the Italians, Dutch, Turks etcthen), so in a weird kind of way it's a sort of relief to see it's not us this time, nothing at all to do with us, in any way. (except the puck was made in UK apparently)

I wonder if Canada has the 'rent a thug' option?

I have read that they are available for footie matches :-(

It's a shame for the well behaved fans you get stuck in the middle of it all....whatever the sport is.

I understand the heat of competition during a game, I am a huge rugby fan. However when England loses a big game I just sulk, I wouldn't dream of setting fire to cars, smashing shop windows or attacking the police!

Watching Ice Hockey is like watching a riot itself. There always seems to be pushing and fighting going on, not a good example to set fans.
Sadly there will always be morons who behave this way when their team loses, although I doubt they are real fans, just yobs out for a fight and to cause trouble.

Hi

I caught a bit on the news, and wondered what it was all about.
Animals would behave better.

The riots in Vancouver after the home team lost was unbelievable. Yes we are talking about ice hockey.

Why do some sports fans act like this? Not exactly a matter of life and death is it?

The footage has been shown on UK news channels throughout the day. Still it makes a change from football hooligans I suppose.
