Rose I loved this site so I'm not going to criticise people staying here:) some of the best contacts and mates were found here. The site is dumbed down for me - too few personalities, too wishy washy and too many critical posts about the way others behave.

Uggers I don't spend as much time on the internet generally now, and my tree is as complete as I can get it barring any 'new' records appearing online but I shall renew in a couple of months time because just recently I have found more Irish info and accordingly have had a couple of matches from adding that part of my tree on here.

I miss the people who brought a bit of 'spice' to the boards, the ones who were good at witty repartee in a debate, even if it was at my expense lol.

I'm another one who renewed one night after a break when I was looking in and I think I'll let it lapse again cos I'm not getting my tenner's worth of use :) I use other sites more for genealogy and chat and I think the chat board is a pretty soul-less place now. I almost miss the days on here that I was quite addicted to - lots of dramas but a lot of laughs.

Rose, your post is a bit vague so I don't know who is being criticised or defended - I've always felt there was too much criticism of others in general.

I am an oldy from times gone by on the boards, but left a good 3 years ago.I left because things were getting out of hand and I was more miserable reading the boards than not, so I chose to leave.
I decided to come back and give GR another go:-) I spend a lot of my time at home here on my own and its quite nice to have an occasional word with people over the net.
I use facebook and have a couple of people from my previous time on GR on my FB page.
So far being back on GR I have spoken to some lovely people, and they have helped me a great deal.
Arguing and bickering is so tiring, it really isn't worth it, it makes people unhappy and miserable and its also very hurtful.

I remember the first time I posted timidly on records board, I had some answers whch were of the chatty type and some of the factual 'bullet point' variety.... I wasn't put out by brevity of the latter because i wasn't expecting the former lol.

'General' was found much later and I watched for a while before venturing to post on what seemed to be chatty threads open to all :-)

that's true Muffy,, which is why I wouldn't want an ignore button, or to see those who have 'character' ( whether I like it or not) go off the boards, assuming of course that they can be relatively polite and honest :-)
