Instead of watching television and falling asleep on your settee, why don't you listen to the radio in bed. I am awake quite a lot and now accept that I can listen to 5 live where they talk to people in New York as it is their day time , or on the local radio at 01 00 on a Monday morning they have two hours of Brass band music which I think is brilliant. Sure I would rather be asleep but I put the 'snooze' on the radio and then it turns itself off if I fall asleep. If I get 6 hours sleep that is wonderful.
I have just spent a few days on Grandma duties and now realise that I didn't have any problem sleeping whilst stopping at my daughters. I could suggest that but like most grandparents I am happy to hand them back. lol -jl

Hi YorkshireCaz

Good to know it works for others - everyone I've ever told to try it has said it's amazing, it really does work! :-)

RamblingRose

The whole point of the *keep your eyes open and stay awake* method is that the moment you close your eyes the *brain chatter* starts again - you have to really work hard to keep your eyes open and with your eyes open you don't get any *brain chatter*

*brain chatter* being my description of all those thoughts and feelings going around in your head and stopping you from sleeping properly.

If you try the counting method, do it counting backwards from 1000.

Thankyou ladies :-) I used to be a really deep sleeper, through anything ( the storm of 87 for example lol) but that changed when I had to be up 3 or 4 times a night, and I've never been able to get back to the 'you wouldn't wake if a bomb dropped' sleep lol.

Trying to watch the Grand Prix on TV is guaranteed to send me off. I think it’s something about that repetitive Yeeomm Yeeomm as the cars go around that does it!
Most annoying thing is that lovely dozy feeling you get trying to stay awake to see the end of an episode of something like an Agatha Christie mystery but by the time you have brushed your teeth and go to bed it’s gone.
Perhaps as well as “morning fresh” toothpaste we need a soothing night time one too,
maybe Chocolate or Rum & Hot milk flavour!

Sweet dreams,
Mayfield
:-)

Try a large mug of "Horlicks" laced with a liberal amount of Brandy, that should help. if not you will be quite happy not sleeping, depending on the amount of brandy you imbibe.**M**. ;-) :O :S

Good luck Rose. I used to make tea from lettuce many years ago. A naturopath put me onto this remedy. Not very nice to drink, but it helped. Sometimes a small port works for me.

Lettuce know how you get on, lol - sorry, my terrible sense of humour.

Best wishes.

When OH is away, I put a cd on, turn the volume down low ..... I'm usually asleep within 30 minutes.

I can't do it when he's home (most of the time!), because he strains to hear the music, and concentrates on it, so it keeps HIM awake!

I've tried wearing headphones, but it doesn't work the same.

I have 3 or 4 cds that I can use ............ but the problem is, I fall asleep in the daytime if one of them is played!

One of the worst things you can do is stay on your pc until bedtime, or watch a serious TV programme if your brain is stimulated you won't sleep. A couple of squares of dark chocolate is supposed to help.

one of the best ways to relax in bed is,

have a pillow under your head supporting neck ,,,,,,and lay like a cross !! arms just flayed out ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, its so relaxing. a total relax can be as good as a nights sleep.
