has been put to sleep this morning. We are heart broken. Took him for a little walk on the common this morning on the way to the vets took lots of photos. The vet called us and gave us the bad news he is full of secondary tumors some the size of walnuts. Poor little thing. No more suffering for him =I

He is comfortable and relaxed. You did it for him.

I may be wrong in this but I think the best way I can remember a very loved pet, and all mine have been,is to give that love to another little creature that needs it.

So Sorry Carole to hear your sad news but he is resting in Heaven now with all his doggy friends..
Hope this poem doesn't upset you too much as I know I cried buckets when I had to have my dog Bruno put to sleep in 1997.
Read this poem everyday for weeks..missed him so much..

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Oh dear Carole, i am so sorry to hear your sad news. I unfortunately had to go through that same experience three times with each of my Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. As you say, absolutely heartbreaking.
They are all fast asleep in little grave's in the garden and i miss each and every one of them.
They were such precious little members of the family.
Sending you a big )))HUG((( because i know, words will have little meaning right now.

It is hard to lose a member of the family and in time the tears will cease and happy memories return. Take care. You have done what is best for him with love.

Been asleep , didn't sleep well last night thinking of what could happen today. They opened him up to see if the lump was on his spleen and not spread. But it had. So we had to let him go before he suffered any more. Some secondaries the size of walnuts. He was rescued from an animal sanctuary ten years ago. We were so lucky to have him. He was such a kind playful boy. He had friends who loved him and took care of him while we were away on holiday knowing he was well looked after. He was our baby. We walked him on the common this morning so as he fell asleep he would have happy thoughts in his mind. We have to cremate him and bring the ashes home to place in his garden, a special place where he loved to lick frogs and watch them jump! Chase big birds and the odd cat that dared to come into the garden.

Thank you all for your kind words. And to ice ice baby I'll be thinking of you as wee heal from our great loss.Your dog has the same sort of face as ours. But ours was brown with blond legs xx

Lots of hugs, dear Carole, sent you a pm.
We've lost 2 dogs in the past 8 months, one old, one young, but the grief is the same. I imagine them bounding through tall grass, having a whale of a time together, pain-free.

Carole, I'm so sad to hear of the loss of your much loved pet. We lost our little Jack Russell 18 years ago, I was distraught when I left him behind at the vets after the final injection. We could hear him in the house (imagined) for a long time after. We always talk about him when ever we are visiting the family, he grew up with them. They say time heals. but there is a big hole in your hole in your life.

Take care! love Sylvia C. <3
