I live in the USA and am positively devastated that I can find no way to view your 6-part series. Positively Devastated. For Sure. Any suggestions?

Do you know anyone who could record it for you and then send it on to you?

Can you get it on your computer, my OH is able to view sports etc from many countries on his computer.
If I think of anything else I shall add it here.

Ask around your friends - there is a way to 'rip off' programmes from various UK TV channels, although it is easier to do it with BBC ones than ITV.

Janey Canuck has a thread somewhere asking for suggested viewing - she might be able to tell you how to do it (think she is unavailable for a week or so)

I know a young man who lives in London and he is The Best at doing things that ought not to be done with the tv, but he tried and tried and can't copy. When I try to view on the computer, a popup jumps up and says the program cannot be viewed in the US. I'll keep looking for Janey Canuck; these boards are new to me! Thanks so much.

Sylvia, if'n you don't know about maple syrup ............

OK I sorta like maple syrup and have been putting it on my porridge. Now if any smarty pants wants to start up the three bears story, I ain't no Goldilocks!!

Anyway I have had maple syrup on pancakes at the "M" place and there was a bottle of the stuff at work which because I often have brekkie at work I used so it wouldn't be wasted. Now the two tasted the same and the bottle was labelled "maple flavoured syrup".

Very identifiable taste. Still with me??

OK, so being someone who likes authenticity I decided to buy the proper stuff. Not just "flavoured" syrup, but ridgy didge Canadian Maple Syrup. In a glass bottle no less, cost a fortune.........

and tastes nothing like the "flavoured" syrup. It is a much blander, almost no taste syrup.

I am completely nonplussed, discombobulated, and distraught.

Is this a nefarious scheme of your government (which by now has probably almost changed) to keep the good stuff for you lot and foist the inferior, different tasting stuff on us colonials?

So that is what I need to ask about maple syrup.

Whoops nearly forgot. If J used to be a BF, wonder what being introduced to Janey will do for the psyche???

SylviaInCanada Report 30 Apr 2011 21:46

ooooooooooooooo Aunty

true Maple Syrup is nothing like pancake maple flavoured syrup

Haven't had the latter in umpteen years.

I think there is extra flavour added, in the sense that it really is a corn syrup or golden syrup base, and that taste adds to the maple flavour.

I usually have a soy dessert after dinner (have dairy intolerance, so can't have icecream), and always have maple syrup on it.

I buy Canada No 1 Medium Grade ... but even then there can be differences between manufacturers.

The store brand (Safeway) is often weaker and blander than a name brand.

The name brand I prefer is Camp.

think Janey will be back soon. We should direct her to this thread

Hi Sylvia,

My bottle is "Queen 100% Pure Canadian Maple Syrup Certified Organic". It has little dribbles down the sides of the bottle which have solidified. Another thing which doesn't happen with the "flavoured" variety.

Just noticed the brand names of the product. Nope!! Do not think that needs discussion. Discretion being the better part of..... and I do not wish to be "in the syrup".

Note for JWABF..... You will notice your thread has been hijacked and we are very much off subject. Do not despair. As soon as Janey returns, and the dust settles, you will have your answers. Whether they are intelligent, informative, useable answers remains to be seen.

You need a proxy server to be able to view programs using iPlayer and ITV player. They mask your IP address to make it look like you are in the UK.

Plenty of articles about them if you Google "proxy server ITV player"

http://www.anonymous-proxies.org/2009/05/watching-itv-abroad-itv-outside-uk.html

Same is true for watching BBC iPlayer also.

Look for a proxy service that has been recommended.

I've looked over the websites and am sure i'll do something soon - thanks bunches! And I'm sure Janey can handle being introduced to JWAB, which, incidentally, comes from a footnote in a green American Lit book from my jr year of high school many, many, many years ago. Of all the questions that the teacher could have asked that would have come from the text itself, she chose to question us about a footnote in the Mark Twain story, The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County. Obviously, I missed the question and, obviously, I've never forgotten it. And may maple syrup take over the world!

And I know it as the Three Dog Night song, "Joy to the World"

Jeremiah was a bull frog
Was a good friend of mine
I never understood a single word he said
But I helped him a-drink his wine
And he always had some mighty fine wine
Singing
Joy to the world................

And that was many many years ago as well!!

miah

miah Report 1 May 2011 03:56

Oh, OF COURSE, how could I forget that wonderful song! I liked the song sooo much I wanted to name our son Jeremiah and call him Miah. My husband had a sign made for the nurses station saying that the woman from whatever agency comes in and takes the baby's name was not to be allowed in my room unless he was present. Really, how rude. I must say, though, that would have made the kid Jeremiah Jenkins.... : ) But I woulda if I coulda. Now I'm going to have to go download that song : )

Here I am!!!

Back from a week-long venture into hard-core right-wing cretinous fringe-of-Toronto Conservative Party territory. My poor mum actually has to live there.

My secret weapon for viewing forbidden video is No.1, who knows where to find these things on line -- and of course the wonderful Brits who put them there.

Rose has the right idea for anybody who doesn't have handy access to a middle-aged teenaged boy.

This one was recommended to me in my recommendations thread, I think by Mick:

http://www.expatshield.com/

We haven't tried it because No.1 manages to find the right sites to find stuff every time the previous ones get shut down. ;) So we're able to keep watching Casualty even though BBC Canada has eliminated it in favour of a steady diet of reality pap, and also get hold of miniseries from the UK and such (like Brinkburn Street and Any Human Heart, and the various other things I catch sight of hereabouts from time to time).

Uh oh, he's whining for lunch.

AuntySherlock, maple syrup is one of the most revolting substances on the face of the earth. But I suspect you're not appreciating the real thing because your taste buds have been fooled by the pure sugar (or corn syrup) in the fake one. Odd, because I find maple syrup sickly sweet, myself, and I like sweet. But you should give it a chance to let its subtler charm seduce you maybe.
