What are you good at...it may be something you don't KNOW how good you are at it , but people have told you and you have shrugged off the compliment...

this prompted by someone who imo has a talent for something and should have greater recognition :))

Are you an innovative cook, a craftsperson, a painter, cake decorator.... is it lack of confidence in your own ability that holds you back?

Designing and decorating all types of celebration cakes - using sugarcraft. Brides had their bouquets made in sugar etc.

Most demanding of customers were my two g.children! 3yr old g.son wanted Mickey in a bed! So I spent a whole afternoon modelling Mickey's head until I was happy - warned dau not to let him eat it as there was a hardner in it - he did!

Mickey was in a bed with Donald Duck painted on head and footboards. Matching pillow and duvet with frilled sheet. Teddy on the floor with slippers peeping from under the bed. Gdau used to always want a painted Disney plaque she could hang on bedroom wall. Mermaid was the worst.

Since breaking wrists cannot do it and I have cupboards and boxes of stuff I must get rid of, wedding cake stands etc.

Ooh can I have another go. I used to be good at knitting arran and fair iisle
sweaters (no one wears them any more and their cheaper to buy) However can't do that anymore because of RA hands.

Vera, have another go, of course. I can add mentally quicker than OH with pen and paper! Used to love the mental arithmetic lessons! Arran, I have an Arran jacket finished about 4 years ago for self - needs a 24" zip sewn in. Could try and do it this year.

Gave away all my knitting gear and wool a few months ago. Son upset as he liked his Arran sweaters!

I can speak in front of a room full of people without being nervous. I surprised myself a few years ago as I didn't know I could do it. Large crowds don't faze me at all. I have stood on a stage and talked to 400+ people without a single butterfly in the tummy. I've been interviewed on the radio and that doesn't bother me either. Only useful at the moment with my work - there won't be much call for it later:-)

I paint, lost count of how many I've sold, some are in homes, offices museums , Chicago even. I do classes and demo's you wont believe how hard it is to talk and paint !
I love what I do, its better than working, from about 6 years old that was all I wanted to do and I'm never going to retire !

Chris

It's sad not to be able to do the same things now but hey that zipper now that is a challenge. Never was able to successfully put a zip in when dressmaking. It needs to be just right otherwisem it gives the game away.

The youngsters may not be able to do things we could do but I know who I like having around when the mobile phone, compute or printer is challenging me.

SueMaid

That is an achievement - not many people can do that. Have been on many training courses (smaller nos than your audience) and some people just are not easy as speakers.

EDIT did not see you there Lindsey that too is a great achievement especially being able to sell them. What a way to earn a living doing what you love. In my day what you loved could only be a hobby - you had to go out an do a 'proper jiob' (boring shorthand and typing) Would have loved to have done something more creative.

Thank you Vera - I think I just like the sound of my own voice:-)) I don't really see it as an achievement - more luck I think. Now being an artist or a published writer - that I think is an achievement. I also wish I had a talent for knitting.

Oh no Chris..... .cake decorating is a real talent. I have a cousin who does beautiful work. She has an album full of the cakes she has made over the years and they are works of art.
