Some are offended by the use of "christian name" it does'nt bother me its just something we took for granted years ago although I am not a christian, never gave it a second thought in the past

How does a person have a christian name if they have not been christened into that faith?
The term 'forename' has been used on documents for decades as persons of other religions do not have 'christian' names.

If the census is just to provide statistics for future planning, why do they need names anyway?

Just off to post ours now.

IGP - thought about asking you a while ago about the green ink but all the stomach fluttering caused by the knock on the door at 5 past three came back!

Just filled the form in online and on the original form they have sent out it says""First Name"" ""Last Name""

Too much pc going on as it should say Christian name then Surname..

I have put both my christian names in the form online...

Sue
It isn't about 'pc', it's about facts. Jewish people, for example, do not have 'christian' names.

i guess i too was brought up with christian name, never gave it a second thought.

going back years i remember the inspections every 4 years. they stayed for 6 weeks and followed you everywhere making notes. dont miss it a bit, the stress that is, but the staff were like a big family and looked out for each other. sadly jobs today are not the same today, nor the people.

If you are a christian of course you have a 'christian name' and there's nothing wrong with saying so.
A lot of older people grew up using the term 'christian name' across the board without giving it a second thought.
To use that term on documents which are distributed to our multicultural society is inappropriate. Nothing pc about it.

Bearing in mind some of the people I meet each day at work, those of us who have included our middle names will be the least of their worries!
