I can imagine **M** LOLx
Sharron when I see a child with a balloon I back
away, rather cross the road than pass the child.
As you say no logic but must be deep rooted from
way back.

I don't know what frightens me about balloons. It's certainly not logical but I can never remember not being scared of them whereas I can remember not being scared of heights and being brought down off the thatchers ladder.

I did not swim for about thirty years and, although I still can,I am now also afraid of water.

Hi all,

I didn't like spiders, daddy-long-legs or moths and I used to be terrified of wasps and bees - worrying about being allergic to the sting. Hanging out the washing was a nightmare! I regularly made a mad dash for the door if I heard any kind of buzzing. Then, when my kids started to panic too, I had to kerb my feelings and pretend I liked them. Funny thing is, I don't have a fear of any of them now. I can even pick up those big black spiders that you find it the bath. I think that by trying to convince my kids and grandchildren that there's nothing to fear, I convinced myself!

Only fear I can't conquer is heights. I could never go somewhere like the top of Blackpool Tower, no matter how safe it looked..........my knees go weak just thinking about it.

Hi Sharron,

Your the first person I've come across who fears balloons.
I did read one time that people fear the noise when it
bursts cause they don't know when it will happen.

Hi Deanna and all,

They say as you get older you get wiser, I think it's as you
get older you get more wary.It seems that
we all have our own way of trying to rationalise these fears.

Hi Emma and everyone.....I am Claustrophobic, which is amazing as I am also Agoraphobic.... I am afraid of spiders, a fear I have passed on to both my sons, one of whom is 6'2" the other 6'4". Both are afraid of NOTHING else.... well I suppose the normal wise things we should all be wary of.
My daughters are also frightened of spiders but not as bad as sons!
I am less afraid of life now at 70 than I was as a younger woman.

etc goes a funny colour.
My daughter is Claustrophobic, won't take a lift but
has slightly overcome her fear of flying with the help
of medication, gets uptight a week before she goes
on holidays. She is off to Tenerife tomorrow so you
can imagine how this week has gone.

Thunder and lightening. If I could get under my bed I would.
We get thunder storms at the end of summer with lightening that goes pinging into the ground or threads its way all over the sky and thunder that cracks right on top of you.. Once we had a tree that was hit and split in two and it was still smouldering and completely dead next morning. I have some pieces of it inside as it is supposed to be lucky.

Hedgehogs as I trod on one once when I was about ten and walking in long grass and I can still remember the crunch under my foot. I couldn't bear the sight of them for years after that or porcupines at the zoo.

Claustrophobia. Being shut up in small spaces, crowded buses, or small cars and aeroplanes or movie theatres.
.
A friend and I hid in a linen cupboard in an empty house when we were kids and playing hide and seek with our school mates. Luckily we were discovered but I still remember the close dark feeling. I like to be out in the fresh air.

Apart from that only mild things like heights, don't like being too far off the ground.
I climbed up Christchurch Cathedral Spire more than half a century ago when there were only ladders and when I looked down I nearly fell down. I had to come down looking up all the time and I could hardly prise my fingers off the rungs. Now it has fallen down in the earthquake more's the shame.

Apart from that I am as normal as the next person, I think. and I won't even mention snakes.

Spiders I can understand as a lot of people are scared
of them, I think the speed they move at has a lot to do with
it for me.
Balloons from my childhood to this day, any celebration I'm
at if theres' balloons I won't have them near me.
High winds can't figure, its just a fear thats always been there.
