Bridget, what a terrible thing to happen. My heart goes out to all of the family and friends of this young man.

How can anyone say suicide is a cowards way out. No coward could do it. He must have been terribly depressed and that is such an awful thing to go through. God bless him.xx

Having experienced depression both as an observer and as as patient, I can honestly say that I understand the depth of depression which can lead someone to take this final step. We call it a 'black hole'. When one is on bottom it is very hard to visualise climbing up. It is so tragic, but blame the illness, not the person. RIP young man, and peace for the family left behind.

The death of one's child of whatever age would be tragic and in such awful circumstances it must be so very hard to cope after such a loss.

Rest in peace, young man.

This is desperately sad news Bridget.Hope the young man is at peace now, and his dad finds the strength to bear this terrible burden.
One of my daughters and I drove to Brittany last year, to attend one of my gdaughter's wedding on the 4th.April.On the very morning, daughter was phoned on her mobile by her husband to say her best friend's partner had committed suicide the night before. We both left next morning to drive all the way back to Holland in one day, so daughter could be there for her friend & son...such a terrible shock, no-one saw this coming.
Of course we all mourn the loss of a loved one, but when they take their own lives.......... it is a very lonely, dark place to be, poor lost souls.

Nothing I can say that hasn't been said really. Deanna has said it very eloquently.

My sympathies to all,

Bridget, how terribly sad that this young man felt he had no alternative to hanging himself. I am so sorry and hope he has indeed found his Mum. I am also sending my thoughts to his poor Father. No matter what he has done, how often he was unfaithful to his wife he obviously loved his son very much and this will be a great shock to him. I hope that he is able to come to terms with everything before too long.

Deanna Report 27 Feb 2011 16:13

I don't know what to say, as there really is NOTHING which would ease your friends pain.... nothing.

Who said the word 'coward'? I could not find it.... but I have had TWO friends & a GR friend whose sons took their own lives.
They all three gave no signs which could have sent an alarm to their families.... Depression is such a complex illness.
AND.... Depressed people hide it so well..... I'm not sure what you were trying to tell us Bridget, about his father.... but he did not cause or deserve this.
The poor man must be beside himself with grief.

I just always try to think , in any dreadful situation... there but for the grace of God go any one of us... and pray that it will never be me or mine.

Poor father, poor son....

This is so sad Bridget and his family are going to take a long time to get over this(if ever). My Nephews best friend hanged himself at the age of 17.He was in school with my nephew that morning and then at lunch time walked out of school and was found a couple of hours later.I won't go into the details of what he did to himself before he killed himself, but he had obviously planned his death. The effect on his family ,my nephew and his friends were just dreadful.
My thoughts are with your friend and his family at this very sad and difficult time.

ForeverMystified

Thank you for your message. OCD is such a sad thing to have and so often the person also has depression. I wish I could help in some way but sadly I am not in a position to do so. I can only offer to keep you both in my thoughts and quiet time which I have at some point everyday

Yes it is indeed a tragedy not only for the young man himself but also for his family and friends.

Kind regards

Bridget.

What a tragedy for one and all, and no it isn't cowardly, tragic yes that somebody can be so depressed to do such a thing.

I have a son who suffers the horrors of OCD and depression and if I had a pound for every person who says he should pull himself together maybe I could afford professional help for him and not wait months.

God bless one and all.

Rita

Many many thanks for your last entry...surly by now most people would agree with you and I include myself. This young man had been distressed and sad since the day his mother died. She was a delightful lady. she went out shopping and her husband owned a taxi service. he saw her waitng for a bus and sent one of his men to pick her up. This duly happened, she went home put her shopping away, made a cup of tea, sat down and died a few minutes later of natural causes.

Rita I lived in a place called Attleborough for two years so got to know Norfolk very well, we still go to visit friends and were there just over a month ago, where do you live?

RIP for all those who have ended their life so prematurely

Jean

How sad that your son died so tragically. The pain must be with you for the rest of your life and I dare say that reading this thread must also have caused you some pain as well so thank you so much for your message. My eldest sister had a son who died iat home in his twenties from severe asthma attack.

But to have a child who kills themselves deliberatley must be totally unbearable, especially when he had phoned his father and said." I am going to see Mum". No one thought he meant it in the way he did. Was this a cry for help or was he about to do what he did.?
These are the questionshis family are now askig themselves and me, Icannot think of an answere to give them..

Sorry to hear this. Having lost our son at the age of 42, through accidental causes, I feel for this family and will add them to my thoughts. The memory never fades but it does become easier to live with.

Jude and Rita

Thank you for your thoughts and condolences.

A neighbour of the family, neighbour that is of the Spanish home has just telephoned to offer their condolences and then said to me that " suicide is a cowardly thing to do". I was lost for words. I do not know this neighbour but I certainly will not pass that message on. It may be her personal view but really did she have to say this??

Rita, so sorry to hear that you have known two people who have also taken this sad exit from life.
Jude, thank you for your kind thoughts, and I am keeping well if somewhat sad for all of the family.
Having had 5 sons and one daughter we experienced all sorts of emotions as they were growing up but thank God nothing like this.

I have put a message on my Bridgets" Daily Diary but also decided to add this message on here, so I hope that no-one objects.

This morning about 90 minutes ago our telephone rang and a friend asked if he could come and use my printer so that some mutual friends could fly back home to the UK today. Now we had been with these friends until about 9pm last night and everything seemed to be OK and we had a good time.

Whilst we were all together our friend received a tel call from one of his sons to say that he was "going to see Mum". We all thought that he was going to the cemetery, how wrong we all were. At about 11pm (Spanish time) he learnt that his son had in fact hung himself and had been successful in his attempt to "see his mum". We are all shocked but we cannot feel what our friend can be feeling.

This morning my OH is driving the family to Barcelona airport so he and his partner and her son can all go home. We are now very concerned for the emotional state this man is experiencing and surfice to say that he also has the burden of knowing that his unfaithfulness many times hurt all the family over many years.
However what I try to remember is that he is paying a very high price, he looks dreadful and I dare say that he is experiencing pain and dismay that no-one who has not been in a similar position can understand. I also remind myself that his wife loved him very much. His wife died about 6 years ago from natural causes and she was in her late 40s. she died peacefully at home having sat down to have a cup of tea after doing the families weekly shop.

Please say a prayer for everyone who is this morning without this young man in their life anymore.

Thank you.

Bridget
