OH does all the washing, and hangs it on the lines in the basement to dry ........... we've never had a drier.

Then he folds it and brings it all upstairs. He puts his stuff away. I put my stuff away .... and whoever has time puts the "linens" away



But a lot of our things are washed inside out ....................... it is actually better to wash trousers and sweaters inside out, as it keeps them looking better for longer.


There is less lint and fluffing on sweaters and jumpers when washed inside out.

As someone said to me once when I was in my teens, what do you do with your knickers after you have worn them out and I said I wear them home again. This other young lass said she gave hers to her boyfriend to clean his motorbike.

Clever lady Maggie re the washing insideout, but as I not a lover of ironing (sorry for swearing !) Ido hang the washing out as it is presented to me,
I find that it are reds that fade in the sunlight, no probs with anything else.

Because of the problem of tissues disintegrating ( even the most rigorous search can leave one in the very depths of a pocket), I always wash ALL my clothes inside out - then if there is a 'rogue' tissue, it deposits itself on the inside of clothes - so I don't have to pick it off/ wash said item again!!
Also, I hang my clothes outside when possible, and if they're inside out, the sun doesn't fade the 'right' side!!

I am lucky I know. My OH sorts and washes clothes a lot of the time and does all the ironing most of the time (in fact nearly all of the time.) If a tissue is left in the wash it is mine as he still insistes on using proper hankies unless he has a cold. But I have noticed that tissues tend not to disintegrate these days. When socks are dry I put them on the bed and he sorts and rolls his own. Likewise all other aired clothes, I take them out of the airing cupboard and hang them on his wardrobe door or put on the bed and he puts them away. In the summer he hangs the washing out on the line if I am out or busy. And takes it in when dry without being asked.

Because he is my carer now and has to use all - he uses the various gadgets including my Kenwood Chef but loves the hand blender! He does check now and then it he needs something different on washer - like the other day spin only but even though an engineer he has yet to live down the disgrace of trying to open the washer to hang out clothes as I requested many years ago. Son with glee told me when he arrived home was to hear OH ranting about a stupid washer - son opened it!!

I wouldn't let my OH anywhere near the washing machine.
Once while i was in hospital he put a white load on at 95 degrees, including our newborns knitted white matinee jackets.

I think you need to have a word with Mrs GP IGP as I'm not sure if this smalls phenomena is commonplace amongst us ladies.

I am pleased to note that I am not alone in having a man that knows his way to the washing machine.

In answer to the earlier question - yes I do do the washing now and again - which is how I know all about inside out knickers.....!

I always send socks back to the owner clean and dried but as they were put in basket, ie rolled up, inside out etc. If they can't be bothered to unroll them, why should I !!
Years ago when all 4 of my children were working but still living at home I had a rule that any money found in pockets belonged to me whether it was a ten pence piece or a ten pound note. They soon got the 'check and empty your pockets' message.

CC, I am the same, my late Mum would iron everything, towels, socks etc etc

When my son was young I would iron his things so he always looked smart but as he got older and wore more casual clothing he had to do it himself or wear things unironed. I hang lots of thing to dry on hangers if drying indoors and have persuaded o.h. that it's not necessary to iron much.
Now if he needs a shirt or something ironed, he has to do it himself before wearing. Same with me, I only iron tops when necessary and needed, or will just do the bare minimum to have something ready for use.

If things are hung up properly from the washing machine, they come out pretty good without all that effort and electricity.

If the good lord had meant us to waste time ironing she wouldn't have made us warm blooded. :-)
I'm wondering if a ladies knickers turning inside out might have connotations.................could be one for Motie n'est pas?

Quite right Foggy! we have clothes to keep us warm (and to prevent frightening the horses) not to keep us busy. LOL

How great to have no nagging...lol.

Main clothes to the cleaners, come back all pressed and on hangers.
Shirts stc, and linens to the laundry, comes back all ironed and folded...easy, even socks all sorted and folded.

Oh Janet I like that!

Always check the pocket for tissues , or money and pay statements ,in my son's case!

As for socks, black are a nightmare to match up.

Don't give a toss if they are inside out our not, other than shirts , which I have to iron , if the rest leave theirs inside out they get put back in the the same way the were presented to be washed.

Iron boxers..? Wouldn't dream of it ! No underwear in fact , towels or tea towels .

MIL used to iron everything she washed. But always folded hubby's shirts
