Have to agree with you on the traffic, Bob. I live on a road that turns out onto a very busy main route into the town centre and where (effectively) four roads meet, where there are new houses being built on either side of the road and where it can take anything up to ten minutes for a big enough gap to drive out onto the main road.

Additionally, there are currently temporary traffic lights sited at either edge of our road which is making driving a nightmare and means you have to leave at least five minutes earlier than normal just to contend with the traffic lights.

Everybody has been saying for ages that what we really need is a roundabout, because - although we live just on the edge of a 30mph/40mph speed limit change-over - you're never sure if people coming into town have slowed down enough. And now it emerges that we aren't going to have a roundabout put in because "there isn't enough traffic" to warrant one. (I don't know what time of day they came down to observe for that one - maybe 2am?)

Hello Rita ....it's not that I don't agree with the DNA database completely , it can be a fantastic tool for good . I personally don't think that the powers that be should be able to retain indefinitely , the DNA samples of folk ( especially youngsters ) that are pulled in for questioning , especially when no further action is taken .
My daughter ( when aged 14 ) had hers taken because she was chatting to some boys who knocked down a wall , she had not been involved in the act of vandalism what-so-ever but yet her information is still on that system . It annoys me .

I don't agree with capital punishment because of cases were they have the wrong perpetrator but do believe corporal punishment. Back in the early 80's I worked in a guest house on the isle of man and some guest in their early 20's who stayed with us whenever they went out they would remind themselves that they had to be on their best behaviour because you would get the cat o nine tails for what they did at home. I am talking graffitti, vandalism, etc. The threat was enough.

Paedophiles should be castrated.

Parole should be abolished and hard labour should be the order of the day.

I would also bring back national service to instill discipline.

I'd like to see some changes to the laws regarding The National DNA database . I do not think that the samples that are routinely taken from " suspects " should be kept on a permanent basis .

As a smoker I do have some issues with the smoking laws . I don't see why there can't be " smoking " pubs / clubs and non / smoking ones as well , it ought to be a matter of personal choice .

Regarding the smoking ban, I think that clubs and pubs etc should have the right to allow smoking in designated places....the sight of addicts loitering around doorways, and piles of fagends strewn around does nothing for the environment.

have you noticed that most laws PREVENT people doing things? there are not many that give you the absolute right to indulge is an activity..

there was talk on our local radio about over 70's having to take a driving test..WHY?

what SHOULD be introduced is a periodic driving ability test for ALL drivers.
possessing or being entitled to a hold a driving licence doesn't neccessarily mean that you are capable of driving safely.......similarly NOT having a licence doesn't mean that you are UNABLE to drive safely.......

"The Your Freedom website will ask three questions including, "which current laws would you like to remove or change because they restrict your civil liberties?"

that's subtley different isn't it? to just 'bad laws'

and a comment on the BBC news site

"First, exactly which civil liberties should be protected?

After all, one person's civil liberty is another person's civil imposition. For example, is the law banning smoking in a public place a restriction of personal freedom? Or is it a sensible measure to protect people's health?

Second, there's a danger Mr Clegg's drive to reduce the number of laws may end up creating even more laws. Hence if you want to curb the use of CCTV,
you may have to pass new laws imposing fresh restrictions."

Frederick...and what are you going to do for those victims of 'miscarriage of justice' when you've hung them?

not exactly a law, but I think that before councils, local government, put things like traffic calming and detours in, they should not only discuss it with the locals, but should include opinions from motorists,
how often do you find that a minor alteration for the residents' benefit incurs a perhaps a mile long detour?
there is a case near me, where to cross a road entails a detour of nearly a half mile........

repeal parts of the handgun ban so that legitimate sportsmen can indulge in the training for the olympic sport of target pistol shooting.

To repeal the Capital Punishment Law.

Hang them all, murderers, rapists, pedo's, terrorists, etc etc.
then there would be plenty of places in prison for minor offenders, at least they wouldn't be able to re-offend like most of them do now.

Members of the public will be given the right to nominate unpopular laws they want scrapped, Nick Clegg has announced the Your Freedom initiative intended to begin a shift of power away from the state to the people.
what yours for the scrap bin?
