How many modern day parents have bought a family bible to enter stuff in as out ancestors did.

We never had one in our house...did you?

We never had one - weren't/aren't Christians!!!

We have a big family bible in the house and I fill in all the family details from when we married, our children's births to the grandchildren's births and my father and in-laws deaths.

We have my grandmother's "birthday book" with birthdays going back to the 1800s. That allows for more remote family and friends to be included, and I like that. I've tried to keep my own, but I mess them up and lose them ...

I too have a birthday book. My OH's cousin has a book that her and OH's gran had when her children were little. It's similar to a diary without dated pages. She conveniently wrote the birthdays of all children, the deaths of various family members, accidents and illnesses, household accounts etc. I would love to have it but I know it's in safe hands and I can have a look whenever I like.

yes we had a bible but not a family one, Teresa has one but I think one of Grandfathers was a vicar or something like that.... I had a childrens bible in colour brought for me for my 10th birthday my Auntie walked all the way to Salford to buy in the pouring rain, My mum used to tell me that constantly and my mum still has the bible. yes I used to read it coz I enjoyed the stories.

Am not a parent so perhaps not qualified to answer the question.

However, apart from the many Bibles in my husband's study (he being a church minister), we both have Bibles that belonged to some of our recent ancestors. One of these has some family names written in it.

We have never had a family bible passed down or otherwise,,,,and no one in my famiy has one either and I bet most modern parents thats into research has thought to ever start one off either,,,,mind a real nice leather bound one would cost a £££££££s now.....

Some Bibles are very precious to me - one was given to me by my uncle who was one of my Godparents, for my christening, with his writing in it; he was in the Paras and the christening had to wait until his return from Palestine; another belonged to my Irish great-great-grandfather, and this has his writing inside it.

The family bible I have is one of the mysteries of our family. I received it via my mother from my paternal grandparents house after they died. It contains the history of birth, deaths and marriages from 1756 through to the 1920 of my grandmother's family. The information is written on the end papers of the bible and on two sheets of very thin letter paper. It looks like the same person has done all the writing. I have no idea who owned the bible, or who did the research to compile the family history details. I do know that I have researched the information and it is very accurate.

I have a family Bible which my Grandmother started in 1901. The last person to write in it was my father, in 1954, when one of his nephews died. I don't think anyone has had the heart to write in it since.

Believe it or not - I haven't.

I enter all my details in a copy of Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy, a far better read and more believable anyway :-)

although I'd love to come across one that beloned to ancestors it wouldnt hav any bibical meaning,just any written entries in it,,they did stuff like that didnt they,

I've actually got a wonderful family bible, goes back to the year dot.

But it burns my hands if I touch it and I hear voices in my head for days afterwards telling me to sacrifice a frog.

Yep I use a calendar as well....not religious so don't have bibles or Korans or any such stuff here.

Having said that... if later the girls want to investigate it all I'll certainly make sure they are given the information they need and let them make their own minds up x

i got given a bible when i first went to secondary school, that litteman now has, but me not being religious and him not being able to read its of no use, plus the fact i dnt belive a word of it lol,

all my speacial stuff goes in my memory book, and littemans baby memory book,

i know mam has an old bible on the book case but i duno were it came from and who of, infact i think its been in the same position since it was put there the day we moved in and neveer been moved of looked a since lololol xxx
