OOoo l love em don't you.
The other day l bought an old veggies rack, the sort with the round baskets, 3 of them that hook onto the stand, which fold when not in use, its from the 60's era:o))....l'm cleaning it in the garden ready to put plants in:o)

Also l bought a sewing basket, from a simular era. It stand on 3 legs, all basketry, with red fabric lid and handle. Inside there is a plastic tray with 3 compartments...l paid £4.99 for that and £10 for veggie rack. The rack is called HAPPYMAID :o)
And last week l bought a gorgeous eiderdown for single bed, its purple and in purfect condition.

Does anyone else like the charity shops??
l get loads of clothing bargains too:o)

jude

PS...l alterd Handy Maid to HAPPYMAID:o)

I share (or shared) your enthusiasm. The bargains seem to me to be getting less and less now that most have them have "proper" shop managers these days.

But well done to you with your bargains.

Happy days

Thanks Harry.
l work for one charity and got the eiderdown there.
We have a bric-a-brac shop aswell in town and l could get really carried away there.....the old boy usually says "you can make me an offer if you like", silly thing to say to me:o)) lol

Yes l sort of agree with you re managers, some want to make as much as possible, some just want to sell it:o))
We have a new manager, shes great...... she'd found a pr of solid wood bookends that she thought had been in the shop too long and threw them away!!!!!....guess who found them and put them onthe bench to ask her why they had been thrown away...yeh me:o)) well l forgot to ask her and she threw then away again and they were gone for ever. She laughed at me when l asked about them... they were gorgeous:o)

Jude, I was going to ask what bric-a-brac shop, but then I thought it is probably Bonita's. I look for talking books in the charity shops. Had to give up on buying books as I have nowhere left to put them! Not that I get to any shops very often these days. Hereford has/had some good ones. Buy music sometimes too as most of what I like is what young people are turning out of their parents belongings!!

When visiting family in London, I sometimes go to affluent areas like Kensington and Richmond to check out the charity shops, have had some very nice clothes at a fraction of the cost.

Haribodonna......you can sometimes get bargains like that in less affluent shops, not very often though!!
Just finished planting out the veggie basket and its about to rain or something!!

I recently bought a cute little ceramic mother goose with 3 young geese for $1 NZD at my local salvation army family shop, they are made in germany and there is a number stamped on one of them. I tried to find what they are actually worth on the internet and I could only find the mother goose as being worth approx $9.00USD.

I have them on my desk at work.

Hello Annie

Sounds like a bargain there. Did you look on Ebay. Have they got a name on the bottom??

Enjoy them:o)

Hi Jude,

I just has Germany stamped on the bottom of the 3 small figures and the number 10434 stamped is on the side of the large figure.

I did check Ebay and a few other websites but only come up with the large one, can never find anything on the smaller ones.

I bought a Limoges plate with a picture of a lady in a mauve Edwardian Hobble skirt outfit on it. It was $5 Aust. It had been sitting in the window for several weeks before I decided to buy it and when I did the assistant was quite annoyed at the low price, but she had plenty of opportunities to change it if she had even noticed it.
My favourite shops are Opportunity Shops, antique shops, second hand shops, book shops and hardware shops. No department stores or supermarkets or butcher shops.

Hi Jude and all,

Charity shops were my downfall, I bought so much stuff while I was trying to get my house fixed up, all for when it was done and now of course I have so much stuff there's no room to work on the house. I used to get some great clothes too and my son is hooked on them now, he always goes to them if he visits other towns and cities and when he worked in Essex he picked up some really good clothes, designer names and such.
Sometimes he gets things and sells them for profit on ebay too.
I like to use quirky things like you Jude, with the veggie rack planter and also collect fabric for making cushion covers, bags or soft toys but haven't had a chance here at o.h.'s, no room for anything that you might want to leave out for next day to get on with, everything has to be moved about all the while as it's so small
I like Gumtree now and Freecycle but do look in charity shops now and then, to keep my eye in lol Most of the time I go out too late as Charity shops often close around 4pm so that's helped me curb my spending lol

Good luck to all of you for more exciting bargains!

I just lurrrve the Charity Shops, and would live and die in them if it wasn't for me OH. I like to buy mens shirts for myself, because the armhole is cut deeper than on a ladies blouse. These are great for when you are working, ie. gardening as I do, because they do not pull apart at the buttons when you are stretching.
I also like to buy pots to stand plants in, in my conservatory.
A couple of years ago I got a thigh lenght coat in a Cashmere/Wool mix, abit 1940's style, with abit of a swagger back, in my favourite colour Fuschia Pink, for £8. It is me 'best coat'. now. Lovely and warm in winter and very smart.
I have also had third world beads and such from there, because they have a better choice than a specialist shop in the same town.
Of course, I also give to the shops, such things as paperbacks that I have read and jigsaws, used once. When know that I have an appointment at hospital, I save my paperbacks, and while I am seeing the doc. OH takes them to the L***** of F****s shop in the hospital.

Not fussy, Jude, I can play tapes or CDs. Not keen on light romance though. Travel is good, mysteries, Oh almost anything, mostly drawn to mens type of book. Bought a marvellous full lenght coat once and would have it yet, a heavyweight tweed, but when my angina was bad it was too heavy and i recycled it to charity.
