GoldenGirl if you google callblocker there's a site of the same name or another one called truecall, there's quite a big difference in price between the two though. They've also got them on ebay I think so you might do better there.

I first saw them on QVC and thought how clever but never did anything about it, now I'm just getting so fed up with jumping up and down every time the phone rings, plus I don't hold back with my choice of words so better for me I think if I can just press a button without having to speak to them lol

I had one of these a few weeks ago from a man claiming to be from Microsoft telling me I had a virus on my computer and that he could put it right.
I asked him which computer it was on which puzzled him, so I told him if he was clever enough to know I had a virus he must surely know which machine it was on. Strangely enough he put the phone down on me, can't think why.

I often get calls from people telling me I'm in debt (I'm not), I ask them to repeat the name of the company they are representing, then tell them I'm reporting them for calling me when I have telephone preference. I swear they just pick names from the phone book, they're bound to get lucky at some point I imagine.

I'm seriously thinking of getting one of those machines that connect to the phone, so that every time you get an unwanted caller you just press a button and it blocks them from ringing again

we get them too, all the time, generally saying we have a problem with Windows, I always ask them why they think I've got a computer and that normally shuts them up

We have at least one of those calls a week. T lets him ramble away asking questions without giving any real answers then tells him he is not interested in his scam.

I am almost positive that he is a CON MAN.

I had a few calls a couple of weeks ago... bad ,bad line, he tried an hour later and then the next day.
He said he was from some people who were collecting debts. I can't remember now exactly what he said, but I had outstanding debts.
I said... Indeed I do not... and he said, yes you do!
I hung up on him and my son and many others said I should tell the police. I wish
now that I had, as this is one of a few tales I have heard.
The thing which worried me most was..... He said.... Am I speaking to .... and named me!!
I have no outstanding debts, so where did he get my name?
A worry, isn't it?
They must think we are SO RICH... and thick!

Yes Daff, You are right it is criminal and needs to be stopped. I'm the case of the one I had... I know older people around here who would be caught by that and paid whatever they said.... They would be afraid.

Actually, Marjery, the call centres in India are generally up to the minute, all mod cons, and not at all 3rd world rate, which is what you are implying.

These are not calls coming from call centres, which although tiresome, are generally well managed and controlled. and not scams... they are trying to generate genuine business, usually, for UK based companies who *contract out* the call centre services.

The type of call we are talking about is illegal, scamming, and on a par with burglery, shoplifting, identity crime, fraud etc etc... and details are almost always sold on at huge profits. Not the same thing at all.

Your post implies something that tastes a lot of racism.

Edit: I have my niece hanging over my shoulder. She was offended by the analogy, although understands that people get upset by the rudeness of some callers. She is half Indian.

When you next get a call like that do as my daughter does and say "Hold the line please" then put the phone down and get on with something else. Some time later you can hang up.
That call will have been made by a man in India sitting on a bike seat with a generator attached to the front axle and being powered by him peddling away while he is either talking on the phone or using his computer attached to the handle bars. The latest call centre in India.

A relative of mine fell for something similar, and ended up clicking on this that and the other at the caller's behest, and in so doing, gave the caller full control of her PC. Fortunately, she was such a numpty at the time, that she had nothing too bad on her pc... no banking details or anything like that. It was an old revamped pc that she was *learning* on... so no real damage done. Had it happened a year later, she might have still been taken in, but the effects would have been dramatic, as all her degree work etc was on it, plus financial stuff etc etc....

If anyone phones me about anything now, I tell them that I have a policy of never ever conducting any business or research or whatever as the result of a telephone/doorstep/e-mail cold call. That when I require assistance, I will research it myself, thank you very much! Some callers are very very persistent, aren't they?

there has been a warning not long ago about this,
thye get your details and you end up getting a virus put on puter

it all a scam
in fact you may want to warn police or local authority, incse someone not as smart as you get scammed

It's a scam...lots on google about it but the basis is that they random call and the unwary then give them remote access to the computer, they can then access all info you might have on there, plus send you a bill for services.

Mmm...suspicious me thinks. l did tell him that if my pc was'nt working properly l would sort it myself !!

A friend in Cumbria had the same thing last week. He seemed to know an awful lot of details & asked her to check whether something was running properly.
He then asked if she was logged in to her computer.
She told him that if he really knew so much, he would know whether she was logged in or not.
The phone went dead.
Don´t know what it was all about,but be very careful.

In India asking "how is your computer" . l told him it is fine, he said he was from PC something (not pc world!!) and that pc's in our area are having probs with the net. l kept saying l do not have probs, he kept saying how do you know.....grrrrr....l put the phone down.

Do you think he is genuine?? Has anyone else had this??
