Hi Julie

Well, I've never used the FB account, no info about me nor photos or anything at all, so nothing other than my private email addy to link me to any of these people at all.

So I don't get how FB thinks I might know these people? Although I do know them, each of them has my private email addy, but nothing else to link me to them.

Mary

Edit: Sorry, Gmail is Googlemail. Just another email service, like AOL or Hotmail.

Julie Report 27 Jun 2010 15:26

Ok im with you now

What that is FB informing you they have found someone that you might know......it also used to be that if you put a photo on and someone made a comment the you'll get an e-mail for that too

I did untick that bit in my settings so i wouldn't get them anymore.

I don't know what a Gmail is sorry

Hi Julie

Ohh we posted at the same time :-)))

Yes, that's it exactly, the emails come to outlook express......and that's not the same email addy FB has for me. FB has got a Gmail addy for me, but the emails don't come to that addy. That's what puzzled me. And none of the people FB suggests has got my Gmail addy either???

Now you have lost me there

I don't get what you mean about the invite to your private addy
Are you meaning that when you go to read your emails say like if you have outlook express...is that where the invites are showing

my suggestions show up in the right hand side of my need feed page

Hi Shirley

I'm not really the least bit interested in FB, only signed up so find someone. lol.

Ah well, I shan't lose any sleep over it.........I'll just delete the email and ignore it like I usually do! LOL

I obviously haven't got enough to do today, hence my pondering about how FB could suggest all these people to me! LOL

Thanks all for answering......I guess I should go and watch the footie hadn't I?? ;-))))))

Hi Julie

But I guess you have changed your email addy in your account details on FB?

I never have, so FB haven't got my private email addy from me, they could only have got it from other people who know me.

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 27 Jun 2010 15:12

I get invites from people i have never heard of but they seem to be linked to family that i have accepted as friends, Its a site i find a little inane to tell the truth all I did this and he said that !!. I have "spoken" to a niece on there and exchanged info with a nephew sending him the paternal family tree to his home address but really its not my cup of tea. Must be an age thing !
Wasn't that enamoured either to download some cr.p from there supposedly sent by email from my ex SIL which I opened and caused all sorts of problems with websites i didnt want . Managed to sort it out eventually but wasnt amused!!

But that's just it Hayley........this *invite* comes to my private email addy, not the same one as I used to register with......the only way FB could have got that email addy is from the person who is inviting me!

And from that, checked to see who else has got my private email addy and then suggested them as friends.......I get it. :-))

they wont have your email address FB will just suggest their friends or ask your friends to suggest some of their friends, basically its drum up interest as your account isnt used.

Hi Julie

Thanks for replying.......and yes it's these *suggestions* that kind of concerned me. Especially as these people don't have the email address that I used to sign up with FB in the first place.

And there is no way some of these people would have added my name or my email address on to their FB account.......like I said, some of them are just work related contacts not friends in anyway, shape or form! lol. So it looks somehow as though FB *harvests* email addys from peoples email accounts.

Mary

EDIT: Hello Young Hayley :-))))) Thanks for your reply too.

Yes, I get what you're saying.........the common theme is that each of these people have my *normal* email addy and none of them have the one I used to sign up to FB with.

Other than my name there's nothing about me in my account, like I said, I never use it, so maybe it's time I deleted it LOL

Its a a database and every now and again it tries to link friends of friends to other friends, EG: Me Muffy and TW are all friends if BC was just on TW friends list it would link her to me and Muffy, but dont fret they can only your FB if you accept I agree with Julie that the terms of privacy have changed so if you are planning to put info or photos on there change it to friends only, you can delete or ignore or even block any application invites you dont want.

Since you joined FB have changed the privacy setting twice.....If you don't want anyone finding you can lock yourself down so tight now

Sometimes i get suggestions even if we only have 1 common person

Hi

I joined FB some years ago purely because I was searching for someone and have never used my account since..........over the years I've had invitations from some friends but haven't bothered to reply, on the basis that if I want to speak to any of my friends I will do so on the phone or by email.......so not a problem.

But - today I got another invitation and this time underneath her invite, there were names and photos of other FB users that I know (all except 2) who only have ever had my email address.

So, my query is this..........does FB track users email accounts or something? I can't understand how else FB would know and suggest that I would like to be *friends* with these other people?? They've never sent invites to me, so it's not from that!!

Some of these other people are nothing more than work related contacts, so they themselves wouldn't have added my name or email to their FB account, so I'm rather puzzled.

My email address that these invites get sent to is my normal one and not the same as the one I used to register with FB either.
