Have just received on from my sister. Lovely poem about friendship and family love etc.

What I didn't like was the threat of what would happen to either yourself or one of your loved ones if you didn't forward it to at least ten people - illness, death etc.

Deleted it straight away.

My sister is pretty vulnerable at the moment, my b.i.l. is getting over meningitis and things were pretty much touch and go for a while. She apologised for forwarding it to me but said she doesn't want to take any chances.

What I don't understand is why someone sent it to her in the first place. Pretty thoughtless.

Libby, I receive these from a distant family member, but they are usually in a jokey form, with only a few of the 'pass it on' type.
But I do dislike her sending them to me. Although they are harmless in their nature, they do no appeal to my sense of humour.
And of course, they do give your e-mail address to the world and his wife.

No matter how sweet or innocent they appear to be, I find the ultimate threat (if you do not pass them on) quite appalling, and so I immediately delete, I have let the people who send them to me, know how I feel. I can understand your sister's sentiments, though. BC XX

I always ignore any request from an email to send it on - threat or not.

If people took a minute to think, they would realise nothing bad would happen from a man made email.
However the vunerable are an exception, if you are low then ones mind works overtime.

Another one which ps me off is the one which says forward this on & something amazing will happen & its really funny.

ps and added to that - how about the ones which ask you to add your name to the end, a sort of petition & send it to all your friends...another load of poop. Strangely a few friends who are really quite intelligent seem to fall for this one - which surprises me !

I hate these type of emails with a vengeance. They can be quite upsetting if you are vulnerable. I had one of the threatening ones when my son was deployed overseas and I stupidly passed it on because I wasn't going to take the chance. Of course logically I knew it wouldn't make any difference but at the time I was so worried about him that I took it to heart. I can well imagine your sister being upset by getting such an email.
