That was so lovely Claire, *her box of diamonds*... to look back on that kind of love really must be a treat.

I remember my Great granny, born in 1867 in Meltham, County of York, Huddersfield.
she used to keep a half crown for my sister and me when we came to visit.
She was an invalid by that time and would be in bed with a shawl wrapped around her shoulders. She was fat and actually very much as I am now.
She died in 1949. I remember that my dad brought my granny over to Germany after her mothers death, to give her a rest. I was 9 years old and walked around the house singing "now is the hour"...... Granny took offence at this, as she complained to mummy that I was trying to tell her to go home!! ;-0(

While searching for my Granny's birth it came as such a surprise to find that she was born in Durham. I had always assumed that she was born in Scotland.
They must have followed the work at the time, because they went up to Lanarkshire, where my granny and granddad met and married.
They did a bit of moving around in those days, and ended up in Fife.

I have photos of my granny, but none of my Great granny. That disappoints me, as we did have a camera, so why did no one take her picture?

Great granny has also left me with a conundrum I have not been able to find an answer to.
She was born ELIZABETH TAYLOR.... and somewhere along the line, she became WEIR. I can find nothing to clear this up. I have all the certificates AND Parish records.
And STILL no answer!

Do any of you have any puzzling things in your trees?

I also have a Greatgrandad who NEVER DIED!! ;-0)

My Great Grandmother,,her name was Maria but was pronounced Mariah (as in Black Mariah).
She was born in 1869 in Scarborough and she died in 1965. I remember that they had her body in the front room in the coffin.I was 9 then so i wasnt allowed in to see her.
She was a gorgeous woman and i loved her to bits, She called me her ''box of diamonds'

I have very clear memories of my grandad, born in 1872. I was 9 when he died & can still remember his Geordie accent which sounded very strange to me, being a Brummie born & bred.

My mam's mother was born in 1885 and she lived until I was 19.

Her sister who was born in 1879 looked after me when I was little, but I don't remember much about her.

Both grans were around till I was an adult, paternal gran was born in 1880 and maternal gran was born in 1884.
My husbands grandparents were around still too after we marrried, his Irish grandad was born in 1874 and gran in 1884.
Michael came from Kilgarven in Southern Ireland and died the day before our daighter was born in 1958,

Jessie my maternal gran died 3 weeks before our daughter was born too. so we both lost agrandparent just as our daughter was coming into the world

I always thought that my earliest born person was my mums aunt Chrissie born 1890 Douglas Lanarkshire. It was the first time I went to Scotland.I was aged 8 at the time and was a big adventure travelling to Scotland overnight on the train from London. She died shortly after so I dont know if mum knew she didnt have long to live.
Just been delving into my step-nans side and realised her father Charles Bowers is the earliest as he was born 1885 Guisbrough. He lived with my grandfather and step-nan in Sussex. When we visited them it was always a big occassion and it involved a whole day out. He used to always be sat in an armchair near the roaring log fire. When we left to go home he used to shake our hands and slip a coin into our hand..lol
