It's not.

It's a name in its own right. Or sometimes maybe a nickname / pet name.

And no, you're an Empressy - not a Queenie so you can't change your board name!

I always thought it was a nickname, Hayley but I've since found a Queenie and she was given the name at birth.

I had a relative who was known by an ordinary name and also Queenie. I always assumed that Queenie was the nickname....it wasn't, the ordinary name was in fact the nickname and nothing to do with royalty lol

I was going to suggest what Ms Grumpy did. ;)

I hit one just the other day who was "Queenie Victoria". I just asked FreeBMD for that and got a load of results starting in 1887 -- 1901 was its heyday. Vicky died in January 1901.

I think "Queenie" was popular pretty much in honour of the old Queen.

Patriotic names were popular around then. Do a search for given name
* Mafeking
--- June quarter 1900, dozens and dozens.
And check
* Baden P
for people named after Baden Powell: same thing, dozens and dozens, especially 1900.

"The relief of Mafeking" was on everybody's lips: remember The Little Princess?

I googled and found Queenie is a variant of the English name Queena and commonly a " pet " name for Victoria .
