i was evacuated to Tunbridge Wells from SE london in Sept 1939 aged just 2+half. Spent about 4 years there even going to School and i loved my Auntie to bits, She was only married 18 months when she took me on and was in her mid twenties. Uncle went off to War soon after so there was only us in the house but used to visit her parents and brother . I am still in touch with their daughter born in 1949 and used to stay with the family each year right up to Auntie died
Well a few years ago me & OH were going a wedding of the daughters son in Tunbridge Wells and we were a bit early so I pressed OH to divert a little and find the house .No problem cos i remembered the area well.Auntie had passed away in 1956 and but they had moved before then. The house was a semi built in the 1930,s and i used to think it was a BIG house was amazed when we drove past how small in looked made OH do u turn and drive back again and park Unfortunately none of the residents then were anyone i knew ,but the were a few twitching curtains as to why this couple were parked and maybe casing the joint.
Was a little bubble busting moment though and i almost wished I hadnt gone back
