Lifes too short to be part of an organised reporting session on an internet forum.

If I see something which I find offensive, be it a post or thread - I report it (If it upsets me enough)

If I see someone in my opinion, breaking the house rules in their behavior towards another person (AKA being bang out of order) - I report them.

I've reported blatent goading on here a number of times, and a few of them times, even though the goading is obvious, GR write back to say they are keeping an eye on the thread and in "this instance" it can stay.

Sometimes it then peters out, sometimes it drags on until it does get removed anyhow & others who retaliate get bans..

Nothing changes does it?

I have no knowledge of the specifics of this event, I just thought something I've had might be of interest.

A couple of months ago I got *apologies* from GR staff for the deletion of two threads of mine when there were *no grounds* for deletion. They weren't boilerplate emails; they were direct responses to my inquiries.

One thread was about St George, and one was about the Political Compass. In the second case, many people had participated happily and without incident. However, a well-known pair of obnoxoids had attempted to disrupt it (in my absence), and possibly reports about their posts had led to deletion of the thread ... but I suspect there were also reports about the thread itself by people who just take their chances, that if they report a thread/post by me it will get deleted no questions asked.

So any people like that might want to take the heads up, that there may just be a new way of looking at unfounded reports of abuse.

It would be unfortunate if this fresh approach itself got generalized so that people reporting posts that others also reported were treated as if they were part of an organized campaign, just because there so obviously are organized campaigns of that sort hereabouts ...

I agree with you Karen - haven't got time. Sometimes I don't like what I read, but it's usually drink talking and I disregard it. It passes off into the ether eventually, so who cares? (Unless it's hurtful to someone - then that's different - it should be reported.)

We wanted moderators so we got "request/review".
So we use "request/review".

What is the point if of using "requesy/revirew" if some of us get suspended?.

Obviously no one at GR is reading the threads in question.

I must be thick or something but how on earth do you know that someone has already reported?

GR have had that one in place for a whle steve, a member was threatened with being suspended if she didnt stop reporting so much,and this was 2/3 yrs ago x

I'm only speculating. But if the person in question was repeatedly reporting the same post or member. It could be deemed as malicious reporting. Then maybe that is why GR gave the ban.

well it may be time to make their job harder lol
and not bother reporting at all

until GR stop people having muliple id's, and stop people changing there names on a wim, nothing will change around ehre x

GR apparently like members to report abuse were it is seen, they like this because it makes the job GR have easier for them to control the boards and act on if needed. That’s what we as members are told.

GR are good at throwing the T's & C's at people. They don't actually do anything to solve the root of any problem on the boards.

For years paying members of GR have asked for things and are still asking for the same things to be put enforce like Moderators etc.


The T'S & C's are often changed in favour of GR at the moment in time, Thus leaving some members a little confused as to what is what.

Would it be easier if
1. If we as members were to report something with a reason then GR should report back to us informing us what action is to be taken and for what reason?

2. Instead of Banning a member for reporting something that had already been reported, just have GR inform that member, that it has been reported already and is being dealt with but thank you for the report anyway?

3. Things Paying member have asked for and still do ask for years later, should be taken into account, and possibly given a review as to if that would be good for the site?

4. If GR change the T's & C's at any time no matter how big or small the change is, GR should put a thread up on GEN and or CHAT informing members as to what has changed in the T's & C's.?

This just a few points that might save any problems like the one this thread is about.
I won't add to this thread again but would be interested to hear what you think?

i think a lot of the replys sent by GR are standard messages

The trouble is just using the reason of breaching the terms of use is a bit ambiguous, why can't they say what people have actually done to breach those terms. It is all very one sided.

I know someone who also got a holiday for reporting something to gr a few weeks back..

They also got the message from GR about breach of the terms of use.

A bit unfair that.
