I may be having to have a pacemaker fitted soon. I have to see consultant on Friday. Has anyone out there had one fitted & if so is there a waiting list? Wondered how long i will have to wait. Also are there any after effects when its been done? My job involves a lot of lifting so how long will i be off work? I know i can ask mu consultant some of this by my mind usually goes blank whilst in there!! Thanks Sharon x |

My mum had one last year, she waited about 3 days to have hers done I think it may depend on how badly you need it, she was a wake and home the following day, she was sore for about week after. |

Don't know much about them only that a work collegue has one and she can't go and serve behind the counter due to the magnets we have there to remove the security tags, as they are strong magnets. |

OH was reading a car manual this week and it mentioned a possible problem with the wireless car key tabs effecting pace makers. As his Dad (92) has a pacemaker, we felt we ought to know more, but medical opinion from his hospital was that the car makers were being rather cautious. |

Hi Shazzlou, I wouldn't worry about it too much - my son has had 2 over the last 3 years. Not much to be careful about -just airport security scanners - and that is just a precaution & whole body 'Haystack' driers at swimming pools! |

My Dad's cousin had one for years, she was fine. Altho she died in January aged 89, it was from other causes not connected to the pacemaker. A cousin of mine from the same side of the family has had one for years too and it changed her life, made it much easier for her to enjoy life again. She is now 73 and must have had hers for over ten years now. |
