Something BC said on her birthday thread (aren't birthdays wonderful)

OH said yesterday I was like a child about them as they matter to me, not as much as they used to. I don't really go in for the flash bang wallop now just look for the furry purses.
OH has never bothered about them at all not even as a child.
Now birthdays as a child were made a lot of, big party in the garden lot's of people etc (etc here being cards and wishes). Then later on me and Dad used to do a 3 day thing his on the 14th fairly sedate, me and him on the 15th just the 2 of us sometimes, picnic by the canal or something then 16th was mine to be outrageous with no adults.... (this was in my 30's even ).
This year by own decision was the quietest I have ever have, just the 2 of us with brekkie out and a take-away at home in the evening ...who knows next year I might even tell him to go to work ! (doubt it) .
His birthdays he will happily work and forget about them.

i loveeeeeeeeee my birthday lol i used to take a full week of work to celebrate it haha they all usedot laugh n say everyone has A birthday you have a full week lol, its 4 weeks after xmas so im al hyper of christmas n dnt come down till after me bdy haha xxx

lol Stray I used to be like that as said I used to do 3 days but incorporated fathers day and the nearest saturday

I was always envious of friends who had summer birthdays (mines November) cos i could not have a party in the garden,i used to get really upset.
Bless her, my Mum did a 8 and3/4 birthday party in the August, no prezzies-just the party on the back lawn, fish paste sarnies, jelly, blancmange ice cream and a cake, we played pass the parcel, pin the tail on the donkey, Statues, and charardes.
The sun shone all day, it was glorious, I've never forgotten it....................

My birthday is in January, not a summer month, but, my Mum always did a party for me whatever the weather. My Dad (RIP Daddy xx) always handed out the prizes and stuff.............

Georgy and Whirls do you or did you think summer b/days got more attention ?

Mine was/is an August birthday and I always (well weather allowing) had my party in the garden with tea on the lawn wasps and all!!!!

And I still love my birthday (as long as I can ignore the age bit!)

My birthday is very near Christmas, but my parents vowed that it would never be merged with Christmas itself.
I remember always having friends round for birthday tea, - blancmange rabbit in jelly 'grass', sandwiches, chocolate finger biscuits, marshmallow cakes in striped silver and red foil etc.followed by party games and always on the actual birthday.
In later years I took a best friend to the pantomime before going back home for a birthday tea, similar to the party one.

We never had grand presents, but always something thoughtfully chosen and much appreciated. Relatives marked any posted cards so that Mum knew they were for my birthday and not family Christmas cards and I would be given my cards to open on the morning of my birthday.

My sister has a summertime birthday which meant we had fun outside usually, but my birthday has the bonus of me never having to go to school or out to work on the day, so it's usually still a family day when my family get together at some point for a shared meal.

As for the years, ...I tend to lose track, but still feel young at heart, so life's OK and birthdays are part of that.

Yep Uzzi, i really do think think summer birthdays get more attention much more choice of what to do, ie go out for the day/family and friends round for BBQ/party outdoors, long days, warm/hot weather, or just chillin out in the sunshine with a cold glass of wine bliss...................

wonder if i can have an official birthday like the queen does? lol

Aaah, Gywn i remember that as well, pink rabbit and green jelly all chopped up to look like grass, wonder if you can still get those rabbit jelly moulds still, its given me an idea for my grandsons birthday in Sept, i would bet, for all the money that will be be spent, that a pink rabbit and jelly grass would be a complete novelty, why do todays generation always think that to enjoy a kiddies party you have to spend-spend-spend,
