A point thought of from Aunty Sherlock, where is your original tree?
Do you have a programme om your PC for it like FTM. If not then I would suggest you look at some o the off-line programmes FTM, PFT, etc

Hi Frankie, Try Legacy. Google the word. You can have a free version or the full version if you wish to pay.

It is a really excellent family tree package which lives on your computer. There are all types of options for stories, photos etc and it is quite versatile.

The only drawback is that if your computer crashes completely you will lose the information. You must therefore back it up to an external drive. I don't think memory sticks work in this case. I tried to move a small tree for someone to a memory stick. It did not work and I ended up overwriting my own tree. (Yes I fixed it by reimporting the info from Ancestry by Gedcom)

I have mine set up on Legacy and also on Ancestry. And I understand what you say about the privacy angle on Ancestry.

I hoope this helps. The Legacy package is very comprehensive and takes a little while to learn to navigate. Stick with it and use the help buttons when you are stuck. Well at least have a look at it. You can always delete it from your computer if you are not happy.

The trees you can buy on disc from people like My Heritage and many others become files on your computer, not available to anyone else unless you send it by gedcom to them.
. I have the Family Search one as a back-up but I don't know if you can add images and photographs as I haven't got any - I think probably not.

My Heritage might be private. then there are other forum sites but no doubt you will be able to see names on them.

I back my FMT up on a memory stick and the e-drive.

Does anyone know of a site I could upload my tree to and keep it totally private? I would want to be able to upload images and documents and so on. I do have tree programs but would like my tree on a site as a back up. Even with Ancestry and Tribal pages the names appear in a list.
