You may also like to google the geographical area of your search and see if there is a historical society active in that location. As well as the larger cities many smaller towns and regional centres have thriving family history museums which may be the source of valuable information.

Kevin, I get all my Australian certs from Joy Murrin, remember they are not certificates but transcriptions, they also have all the information of a certificate though not as pretty. Also about $15 cheaper than a cert.

UK does not charge extra for delivery to OZ so would guess we do the same for those sent to UK. Joy Murrin, not sure about postage, charge is $1 for Australia.

AuntyS is correct with dates for orders here, NSW, Births up to 1909, Marriages up to 1959, Deaths up to 1979. All states are different. Very frustrating.

For Deaths after 1979 you can check various cemeteries and the Ryerson Index, these are both free sites.

Hi Kevin, Have you tried "Joy Murrin" Transcriptions etc. Just google Joy Murrin. This wonderful lot excel in transcriptions of bdm certificates, particularly from New South Wales but they will also do them from other places.

The beauty of this services is that the transcriptions, which contain all the information from the original certificate, or as much as you wish to be given, only cost about half the cost of an official government certificate.

Not only do they have an ordering spreadsheet but you can also email them and chat about your requirements. The turn around time is about two weeks.

They have many other features available and are well worth a google.

Edit. By the way HRHBCC is quite correct about accessing BMD info outside of a certain date criteria. Generally birth certs before 1912, death before 1970 and marriage before 1958, or something along those lines and the dates are different for each State. Try Australian BDM site for the different criteria for each place.

Has anyone in the UK successfully obtained certificates from the NSW fam hist office in Australia? There must be a way, but the on line application form has no boxes for an English postal address, nor how to make payment in sterling, nor how to group multi applications in one transaction. I'm really stuck and would appreciate any help (that doesn't involve getting on a plane!!) Thanks, Kevin
