Is CIN 1 and Borderline Nuclear Changes in cervical smear screening the same thing?
And should the person be worried. I can see lots of info on Google but unsure whether they are the same thing.

it sounds like the changes that sometime happen that can go back to normal, some times they will lazer or mayby a punch biopsy where they take a small piece of tissue , my mum was the next stage which was cancer in situ which means cancer may happen so they did a cone biopsy

Thank you for your understanding of what it is. She has been told they will screen her again in 6 months but as she is only 25 she is extremely worried. The practice nurse has told her not to worry though. I'm trying to re-assure her.

I would do as Puss says and ask the NHS. And ask until she's satisfied with the answer.

I had cervical changes years ago and my doc told me her approach would have been to wait and see -- but they had done that with someone not long before and they waited too long. I opted for the drastic approach: I had the microscopic biopsy thingy, which did find lesions, and then the full cervical cone biopsy ... which found nothing more. Better safe than sorry, was my feeling.

I can't speak to the information your friend has been given -- my situation too was 30+ years ago, in any case, and frankly I can't remember exactly what (early) stage I was at. I would just say that she should satisfy herself that the best option is being followed. If, like me, she prefers to be aggressive and not take even tiny chances, even knowing the risks associated with aggressive action (a cone biopsy, for instance, can cause problems in future pregnancies), she should say so.

Quite a few of us around here have had these sorts of problems and treatments, and we're all here to tell the tales!

I am a nurse but have not worked in this field for some years.So have just Googled CIN1 and found some very clear explanations, these may help to put the persons mind at rest and then she should visit her GP for a full explanation as the results will be sent to him/her.

Hi again, the main thing is there aware of changes and she must must go for those 6 monyjly checks ups the nurse always has a good look at the cervix too ands marks the card accordingly that is sent off, hopefully it will clear up on its own mine and a few others have without treatment but like any cancer or pre cancer is best caught at the earliest;

Thank you everyone who has taken the time to reply.
She is much more relaxed today about everything as she has seen her GP who has explained to her exactly what is wrong and what the plans are for her if the next smear in 6 months shows the same results. She has been told that there is a possibility the next smear may show no BNC at all.
